Having cleverly managed the parliamentary
elections last December 19, 1999 to their own advantage, Yeltsin's handlers and
foreign advisors have already stacked the deck for the presidential election
coming on March 26, 2000. As NSC reported and commented in the January issue as
to what the "departing deal" made with Yeltsin for immunity
from future prosecution, we were correct, since then, even right-wing newspapers
like the New York Post wrote a story under a screaming headline: "Boris'
Secret Stash" and "Boris' Swiss Mess" in which they go
into detail exposing his secret Swiss hank account which the Swiss authorities
froze last summer. On top of this there is an investigation going on in New York
where money laundering also took place. Having Putin in place ahead of time and
having arranged for his immunity - the timing for Yeltsin's resignation was
superb."
Vladimir Putin is practically a shoo-in, because the opposition cannot prepare itself in time and, besides all this, any candidate for a presidential election must have gathered 500,000 signatures in order to run. And, if a candidate like Putin has at his disposal the TV, newspapers, police. and now there's a pledge by Putin that all the pensioners shall get their full pensions, the workers their wages just in time for the March 26th election date!
Vladimir Putin, as stated in all of the bourgeois press, is "an avowed admirer of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet."
After the news of Yeltsin's resignation, the Editor Michael Lucas had telephone conversations with some comrades in Moscow, Leningrad and Minsk, which confirmed the fact that Putin's foreign and internal advisors are promoting Putin as "young and energetic", "law and order", "Russia must be great" and on and on, counterposing Putin's youthfulness with that of Yeltsin.
President Clinton, who met Boris Yeltsin 19 times (more than any other world leader) praised Yeltsin in the following way: "The single idea I heard Yeltsin utter more than any other was that Russia must never go back to the Communist system, which he so vehemently detested."
If Gennady Zyuganov will challenge Putin for the presidency, on what program will he make that challenge? All that transpired with Yeltsin and Putin could not have been done without tacit approval by the top leadership of the CPRF! Even the world's bourgeois press admits this.
Another question is this:
Will the CPRF and other Communist and peoples movements realize in time as to what the upcoming election means to the Soviet people if they do not achieve unity?
We sincerely hope that at this hour of danger, the Soviet people shall get united under a banner of dedicated Marxist-Leninists and not allow the coming to power of reaction and fascism, which would just be the system that the CIA, NATO, TNC, World Bank and WTO would be happy with!
