Bill Clinton claims the U.S. free market lowers crime.
But truth is the U.S. commits crime full time.
We danced ballet with the fascist Pinochet
While his death squads wasted Chileans away;
Waltzed with Suharto of Indonesia.
For whose Timor crimes we had amnesia.
Sure, we kvetch about Russia's making war on the Cheche,
And we yell like Hell at China's human rights, you betcha
Yet when Contras murdered nuns in Nicaragua,
All we did was send Ollie North to Managua.
Plus, after his suffering people kicked him out,
Restored to his throne Iran's bloody Shah,
And tried to sneak poison up Fidel's snout
So Havana could be more like Omaha.
Still, it's now safe to walk our streets, insists Bill;
Maybe so. But not streets of Yugoslavia...
For the crime of ethnic cleansing we'll clobber ya,
Declared Bill. And U.S. planes moved in for the kill.
Ethnic cleansing? At that crime U.S. leads the pack;
Ten million Natives forced unto reservations,
To say naught of the kidnapped African Black
Corralled in Gulag slave-plantations.
Of any large nation, says Bill, U.S. has lowest crime...
Then how come, say I, we've got two million doing time?
