On behalf of the Organizing Committee of Friendship and Solidarity with the Soviet People I am informing all readers of Northstar Compass, all the parties, organizations, trade unions and publications that have signed the Call, that the World Congress shall be held on September 21-22-23, 2001 in Toronto, Canada, at the Friendship House, 280 Queen St. W.

Over the past year we have explored possibilities of holding the World Congress in countries of Europe, more specifically in Minsk, Byelorussia, but due to the political climate and other circumstances beyond our control, this venue proved to be unrealistic... even with all of the great help being offered by our friends there.

The Organizing Committee, together with the Editorial Board of Northstar Compass, Canadian Friends of Soviet People, wish to thank, above all, the generosity and comradely dedication of the Society of Carpatho-Russian Canadians who are giving us their premises for the Congress, plus offices and of course the very generous help that is very much appreciated by all of us.

The delegates that shall arrive at this Congress will have lodgings provided for, plus the meals and transportation within Toronto. Further information will be sent to everyone as soon as all the details are worked out.

Registration forms shall be sent to the whole mailing list after the September conference in Toronto and all other pertinent details for the presentations, resolutions and the proposed agenda... which is a culmination of many suggestions from many comrades all over the world.

The events in the former Soviet Union are changing very rapidly. The struggles are intensifying and many alliances are being formed in many spheres of Soviet life. At this very moment there are very healthy signs that the Communist and Workers parties are discussing the unity question, due to the extremely treacherous role of the present regime, which is going full speed ahead to implement the Yeltsin program which in turn is being pushed by Western imperialism, together with the internal reactionary bourgeoisie.

Unfortunately there are some voices amongst the progressive movement in some countries who are trying to deride and maybe derail this upcoming World Congress. Their message seems to say that at this time there is no need for this "International Unity" since it is only the communist and workers parties of the world that need to be the first to unite around the question of trying to help the Soviet people! That is what is absolutely needed now more than ever... no one in their right mind shall oppose it! But, the unfortunate situation now is that their IS NO UNITY in all of the Communist and Marxist parties in the former Soviet Union, and, the same goes for the Communist and Marxist movements all over the world, and no Communist International. There are many world groupings, seminars, conferences that meet very regularly, discuss many questions, make wonderful decisions... but no unity!

Unfortunately these are the facts and there are many objective and subjective reasons for this disunity, but the wishful thinking, awaiting the proper moment for unity shall not solve the dangerous fact of US imperialism's drive for world domination and to make certain that no unity is achieved inside the former USSR or for that matter, in the International Communist movement!

When this International Council will be elected at the World Congress, it will not take away the effectiveness and dedication that is now being waged by all parties and movements in their very own countries for Socialism and for the resurrection of the Soviet Union!

This upcoming International Council shall be a United Front of alt those who know that there is a desperate need for helping the Soviet people achieve their goal of overthrowing the present corrupt, filthy and rotten regime of the Russian Mafiosi and their imperialist backers.

The upcoming World Congress shall not be used as a forum for ideological debates as to the many causes of the demise of the USSR and other European socialist countries. Our purpose shall be to carry on the traditions established in many countries of the world in 1918, called the "Hands Off Russia Committees"!

While it is incumbent on our comrades in all of the territories of the Soviet Union to strive with every ounce of their energy for the restoration of the Soviet Union, their task will be facilitated by fraternal solidarity and friendship from abroad.

All those that call themselves friends of the Soviet people, adherents of Socialism and Communists, who profess and cherish the memory of the once glorious Soviet Union, have a duty to render every assistance.
