On September 21-22-23 there will gather in Toronto, Canada representatives from all over the world with a mandate from their Communist, Workers parties, movements, organizations and publications in order to give birth to an extremely necessary new organization that will help the Soviet people to resurrect the Soviet Union, Socialism and at the same time help humanity to struggle together against the dangerous US-led imperialist new world order!
Over 100 delegates are coming to this World Congress from the following countries: Russia, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Belgium, France, Australia, Hungary, Chad, Mexico, Sweden, Great Britain, Czech Republic, North Korea, Brazil, Bangladesh, Italy, Pakistan, Spain, Germany, India, Iraq, Syria, Greece, Philippines, USA, Canada, Finland, Cuba, Chile, Colombia, and others as of this date of publishing NSC issue.
The interest that is shown to the World Congress agenda, the resolutions, and to all of the future plans of the forthcoming International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People is an indication that time has arrived and long overdue for the establishment of this world-wide movement.
In this regard, the delegates from former Soviet Union will number 21, representing all major parties, movements and publications of left orientation. These are comrades that are fighting to resurrect the USSR and socialism! Are they all on the same political "wave length" ideologically? No they are not! How does this then preclude unity of purpose and the setting up of this extremely important international body to unite all forces for the resurrection of the Soviet Union?
Judging by the letters, articles, program and countless fax-e-mail-telephone discussions with all of our Soviet comrades, it is evident that although there is no complete unity of tactics, the will and the dedication is absolutely there to achieve this very plateau of then electing an International Council! Everyone agrees that if the international Communist and the progressive movement follows the path of what our grandparents did in 1918 when they set up the "Hands Off Russia" Committees, then progress and a common front shall be achieved.
As NSC wrote in the last issue, we encounter attacks unfortunately not as much from the right as from the left! Why is this so? Simply put, these people do not want to establish a united front for the resurrection of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics... for whatever reason. History will judge the correctness of cur attempt and dedication to set up this International Council!
Again we repeat, as we did on every occasion since Northstar Compass and the Organizing Committee was started… "we believe that the development and promotion of such aims will be of significant assistance to the Soviet people in correcting the current conditions that have been brought to them by the counter-revolutionary forces both internal and external!"
The representatives from the Soviet Union at the World Congress are the present leaders, First secretaries of the Communist and Socialist parties or Editors of their respective parties or publications. There shall also be members of the Russian, Byelorussian and Ukrainian parliaments. Among the delegates there shall also be a Deputy Prime Minister of a country in Africa!
Next month, September will be the start of the 10th year of publishing the journal NSC – 10 years since the advent of "perestroika" (destroyka) in the USSR. This World Congress will also decide whether "Northstar Compass" journal will continue to be the organ of the International Council or another journal will be published by the incoming International Council. Whatever the decision, you can be assured that the struggle for the resurrection of the USSR shall have a world journal published in 4 languages!
I'm just reminding you that the costs of holding such a World Congress are high and we are asking you sincerely to help us financially to cover the costs of hosting over 100 delegates for 3 to 7 days in Toronto.
Full details and materials of the World Congress will be printed in the September issue of NSC, after the Congress is concluded.
