Under a headline "A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing" John MacArthur, publisher of the prestigious USA's "Harpers Magazine" writes in the July 21st edition of the Globe & Mail newspaper in Canada, that the ongoing Bush administration of the USA is "more narrow minded, more ideologically driven, more hostile to international cooperation than any since Ronald Reagan's first term..." (emphasis added). Reagan, it will be vividly recalled, was the ultimate practitioner of "Cold War" designed to bring down the Soviet Union... in part with his "Big Lie" verbiage of the "Evil Empire". Of course he didn't stop there and notched Nicaragua, Grenada, EI Salvador... virtually all of Latin America and South America in his "anti-Communist" gun-belt. His hyped and vaunted "success" was built on US arms production and. military might, spending trillions of dollars and destroying uncountable number of lives. His allocated "job" on behalf of the US monopolies was to refurbish and extend "old-style" imperialist world domination... to create a 21st century style "U.S. UBER ALLES", where imperialist Nazi Germany had failed.

MacArthur's article pinpoints with great accuracy the desperately sad fact that whatever Reagan did... Bush #2 does "more." He is an "even more" vicious and deadly exponent of the same job... to refurbish and extend the "old style" imperialist world domination. But that is hardly news to a world and its ,people being thrust even more deeply into the stinking deadly morass of wars, tensions, hunger, privation, "Big Lies", destruction of elementary human and democratic individual rights, murder, rapine, ignorance and illiteracy, disease and death... all of which are the historically proven "fruits" of imperialist domination. Furthermore, not only are these mindless and horrific assaults on human life and development taking place, but, they are accelerating today. Unlike the massacres, rapes, thefts and the pillaging of imperialism's yesteryear, today's ghastly results are not hidden. For much of the world's people, at a touch of a button, imperialist horror, 2003 style is to be seen ad nauseum on the touted "boob tubes" of CNN, BBC, ABC, MBC or what have you... and actually it is transformed into a forum of "entertainment" and profit making. The horror of it daily, continuous and increasingly violent and revolting.

Interestingly MacArthur's article draws a direct linkage in the "process" that has led Bush #2 and his "partner in crime", Tony Blair to the levels of depraved conduct even a Ronald Reagan could not attain. He names two of the Bush henchmen currently with responsibility in that "administration" cabal, and reveals that one of these, Elliot Abrams, holds the position of "Special Assistant to the President" (Bush #2) and, incredibly, is "Senior Director for Democracy, Human Rights and International Operations at the US National Security Council." MacArthur says of him:

"Mr. Abrams was a ferocious overseer of the carnage wrought in lame measure by his (Reagan’s) Government. "

For those who would recall, that meant EI Salvador death squads, the CIA Ollie North-Reagan "Contra" War on Nicaragua, CIA supported death dealing Guatemalan Government, a little later the wholesale bombing by US war planes of Panama City to extract Bush #1's former CIA henchman and drug runner Noriega... and killing innocent Panamanians in the thousand in the process. It also meant the decimation by bombing of the tiny "spice island" Grenada in the process. The "carnage" was blood in the extreme. And Mr. Abrams, Reagan's "Man in Latin America," was later to "plead guilty" in 1991:

Plainly said, Mr. Abrams is not only a "ferocious overseer" but a self-confessed liar who now is consultant to Bush #2 at the helm of US policy making. Among that crowd of "Iraq War and Weapons of Mass Destruction" liars, it is perhaps not something to be surprised about.

The other, somewhat less flamboyant figure is John Negroponte, who also held a "key post" in the President Reagan State Department. Formerly, as Ambassador to Honduras under Reagan, he "acted as US pro-Consul for the whole region", according to MacArthur. He is now the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and as is plainly seen, advances the task of ensuring that the UN and its General Secretary Kofi Annan do as Bush #2 and his oil crowd dictate… regardless of what the majority of the Security Council should decide. From the slippery, oil slicked vantage point of Bush #2, it is clear that Mr. Negroponte has been doing a superb job. Such sycophants are devoted to the cause (for a very "handsome" paycheck) of world dominion with oil reserves as the primary objective. International tensions must be kept at war boiling point to divert attention from a US domestic deficit that will run to trillions in short order. These are complimentary and go hand in hand to produce such "historic" figures as Bush #2, Abrams, Negroponte, etc. Some might well recall the WWII Deutchbanke, the I.G. Farben crowd, Krupp/Siemens or top figures in the chaotic catastrophe that imperialist, monopoly Nazism brought to Germany. The Nazis sought "world dominion" as history and fifty or more millions dead underlines. They too were liars who believed in "pre-emptive" war... and the right to "regime change." That as something that "Divine Providence," together with the most modern weaponry and military aggression and war, would "jointly" provide them. Of course they were unsuccessful and instead brought a progression of brutality, chaos, and ultimately catastrophe down on the world and on their heads... some at the end of a hangman's rope. Above all, they believed absolutely they were "imperialists" of a "new kind"... and if you did not "agree" then you faced their destructive powers... including the death chambers and the ovens.

As this is written (21/7/03) it is more than likely... and almost a certainty... that added to the list of dead already... achieved by US imperialism, will be more US young men, trained to "obey." Death will come at the hands of Iraqis and other citizens seeking to escape imperialism's death rolls. The non-functioning cerebrums now charged with the task of understanding and planning the future of imperialist plunder, are now locked irrevocably into continuing the war as the future of "their society."

Vested with total control of unparalleled military power, President Bush and his militarists have from the very beginning rejected out of hand all possibilities of diplomatic cooperative solutions through the United Nations and other venues – their reasons are very clear. In the case of modern monopoly development, that can only mean total control of oil reserves wherever these may exist to ensure the continuing use of fossil-fueled engines and of the "high tech" machinery. Central to such a concept is the total control of military might, as well as supremacy of the dollar. Real values produced to fulfill human needs are a poor last. Simply put, money investment plus imperial military means is monopoly’s bloody recipe for control. Bankruptcy in human terms reigns supreme and inviolate behind the control of military death machines of any and all description. See Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia… wherever war continues to erupt as monopoly’s imperial "state policy."

As Northstar Compass enters our twelfth year of publication, it is correct to suggest that as a journal devoted to Friendship, Peace and Solidarity, we would welcome a less stringent and difficult topic for our leading editorial. Our first effort stated simply… "We seek to bring a little ray of light into the foreboding darkness imposed by the Transnational Corporate power" – (Imperialism). We have adhered to that signal market and today point with modest pride to the existence of the "International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People" we were instrumental in erecting. Modest as it may be, we say without equivocation that we believe our Credo, our insistence that "there is a better way" and our adherence to restoring of Soviet Socialism to those hard pressed and exploited people... and Socialism is the way forward for all people in all lands. What other roads are there that will counter the mindless insanity of these current imperialist policies... whether about oil, territory, the continuing subjugation and debauching of the peoples of Africa... and elsewhere... or fighting to exist today as imperialism blasts its way to a possible century of their unique and terrifying horrors for the world majority of our species?

Let it not be forgotten as the imperialist US deficit from war and exploitation, in company with all other monopoly powers (British, European, Japanese, Canadian, etc. who would be "king of the castle") are bludgeoning ever greater numbers of people to be added to the two billion world citizens who today live in imperialist created squalor. Estimates suggest this multitude... that may well soon be more than half of the world's population... live on $2.00 per day... or less. The deadly effect that current "Big Lie" policies we now see multiplying and increasing from the centers of the "new" imperialism can be reversed, and replaced with the policies of Friendship, Peace and Solidarity. It will take an unprecedented level of cross-ethnic, transnational unity among all peoples... their creeds, colors, cultures, tongues and languages merged and unified in the soul-destroying, awful disparity history has left... all to struggle with... and to conquer.
