Statement by the
CC CPSUNovember 29, 2004
Looking realistically at the situation in Ukraine and around it, the CC of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union is making this statement.
FIRST: It is self evident that the roots and the causes of the present situation in Ukraine is due to the illegal dismemberment of the USSR and the elimination of the results of the Referendum of March 17, 1991, which saw the restoration of capitalism in the former Soviet Republics. The regimes of Krawchuk and Kuchma and their anti-peoples policies and political mechanizations, have turned this former blossoming republic into supplying raw materials for imperialism and the exploitation of the people by foreign capital. All that the people of Ukraine were proud of, the industrialization, the agriculture, higher learning that was reached in every corner of Ukraine – was dismembered and is now being ruled under the boots of bourgeois nationalism, supported by all the reactionary force of US imperialism and NATO.
SECOND: The situation in Ukraine shows that by utilizing the election campaign, American imperialism now went openly to mix into the internal affairs of the country, desperately trying to have USA’s candidate win the election at all costs. Today to this post they were pushing Yushenko, but tomorrow there could be another candidate whom US imperialism feels will follow orders from the Pentagon and to put up a cover-up slogan of "national reconciliation". To grab as much as possible for Imperialism, and if that is not possible, to create a situation that foreign intervention will be the order of the day, to gain control of Ukraine and thus make certain that Ukraine in swallowed by NATO. This is the strategy of the US, and only naive people cannot see through all of this: "US democracy and other Western values."
THIRD: It is to be hoped that amongst communists there should not be any illusions as to the politics of the Putin regime also, regarding the Ukrainian crisis. Through all of Putin’s policies, the rhetoric and methods of Russian diplomacy, everything is geared to the line by Putin’s regime of "strategic agreement and partnership" with the USA, and the acceptance of the assigned role for Russia by US in this "partnership." Putin’s agreement to abandon the strategic position regarding Cuba and Vietnam, and the agreement of Russia to give the blessing for the American troops to be stationed on former Soviet territory - the Baltics, Central Asia, and recognizing the illegal regimes of US in Afghanistan and Iraq, the agreement to bring back the small token Russian force home from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo – all this points to the complete abandonment of the interests of Russia in these regions, in order to please the present bourgeois comprador class which is subservient to the Western multinational corporations. The discussions between Putin and Bush regarding Ukraine, these all point to the cardinal fact that Putin will follow the dictates of US politics.
FOURTH: The situation in Ukraine points out graphically that the criminal apparatus that are governing Ukraine and their other clans, have brought Ukraine to the verge of a civil war. The strengthening by Imperialism of Ukrainian nationalism, and constantly fanning these flames of rabid nationalism are outside forces, sponsored, financed and pushed on - this could bring Ukraine to a split of its entity – all this shows that the policy of "divide and rule" is being applied to Ukraine.
Looking at this situation, the CPSU is dedicated to work much harder amongst the Ukrainian people, the workers and farmers, the intellectuals, and inform all people of the former USSR about this political crisis in Ukraine. We will show that there is not much difference between Yushchenko and Yanukovich, since they are both bourgeois politicians and closely tied to Ukrainian nationalism. We must also expose the opportunistic position of the Communist Party of Ukraine that divorced itself from the working class of Ukraine, which allows the bourgeois nationalists to proceed with their policy.
The CPSU is against any possibility of a civil war and splitting of Ukraine, we condemn the wrecking policies of the bourgeois nationalists, who are the instigators, planners and leaders of this crisis.
We appeal to the Ukrainian working class, peasants and working intellectuals, to all people, to unite and give a resounding defeat to those elements which want to push Ukraine into NATO and other unions that will give no freedom to the Ukrainian people.
We know that this crisis will deepen and that there is only one road towards its solvency – this is the road towards a socialist revolution, which would stop in its tracks this robbery and this nationalism, and the designs of international imperialism.
We are Communists-Bolsheviks, for Socialist Ukraine, for Soviet state, for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
