Again we are at the beginning of a new year, having gone through 2004 which was the most traumatic, agonizing and dangerous time - not only for the whole of mankind – but also for the progressive and peace movements across the world that are dedicated above all to peace, socialism and the struggle of Soviet people to regain the USSR as a socialist state, a state that helped to keep in check world imperialism and above all, US imperialism and its New World Order!
In 2004, the world had seen an unleashing of many wars, many conflicts, many untold tragedies; many instigated overthrows of different countries governments by US imperialism; many US regime's plans that, if allowed to continue, will bring the world into a new quagmire of deadlier wars, conflicts, deaths, hunger and savagery, not seen for many years past. The progressive movements around the world have been able to organize mass demonstrations, strikes and many conferences were held all over the world that condemned US imperialism and also pointed out the splits that are beginning to develop between many imperialist countries themselves, and, also between capitalist blocs, such as European Union and NATO.
People of the world have also seen even more graphically than ever before, the subservient policies of the. United Nations Organization to US and British Imperialist designs. They saw and realized that, unless there is unity amongst the people, US imperialism will not be stopped, since it is actually the multinational corporations who control the US government. These multinational corporations have clearly subverted governments of Russia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet republics, plus China, to do their bidding.
How did we at Northstar Compass and in the Executive Committee of the International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People fare in this past very crucial and dangerous year?
Obviously, in spite of the problems, both politically and economically, we are still publishing NSC each month and our readership is growing. It is I now read in 73 countries of the world, with English and French editions. This of course would not be possible without comradely help from the Society of Carpatho-Russian Canadians in whose building we are situated, plus the financial help that these comrades always give us.
The work of the Executive Committee of the International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People is proceeding as well as can be expected in these trying conditions, especially in the politically unsettled and dramatically deteriorating economic conditions in former USSR.
The upcoming Second World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People is in the planning stages now, and judging by the correspondence we have received, it looks as if we are going to have delegates coming from about 37 countries of the world. There is a necessity now for criticism and self-criticism, if we are going to fulfill what the delegates from 17 countries at the First World Congress in 2001 adopted – that there must be functioning a Soviet (Russian) Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries as a partner with the world-wide International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People.
There is now a committee of this Society set up in Moscow, which let us know, that they will be sending a 5-member delegation to the Second World Congress in September of this year in Canada.
Unfortunately, they are still not very active and to the view of the Executive Committee of the International Council, a bit too narrow in their composition. The First World Congress held in 2001 had unanimously decided that the Friendship work, in order to be effective, must be a UNITED FRONT organization.
There is great interest and there are now many other organizations in former USSR that want to be involved and have already indicated to us that they will be sending delegates to the Congress. We sincerely urge the Russian Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries to expand their work quickly and include in their Committee a variety of parties, organizations and movements that are dedicated to the reestablishment of the Soviet Union and of Socialism, not only in Russia itself, but in all of the former Soviet republics.
The unanimous opinion of the International Council is that the Second World Congress must be a UNIFIED FORCE for friendship and solidarity with Soviet People, above all! Friendship should have no boundaries!
Dear comrades and friends:
Our many tasks during this year are extremely important, because our publication and the International Council are dedicated solely to help the Soviet people regain their place in the world, as a bastion of peace and progress and to be able again to stand up for all of humanity against the danger of rabid US Imperialism-Fascism!
This is a very noble task that we cannot abandon! We owe it to the memory of those comrades who in 1918 set up in many countries of the world (including Canada) the "Hands Off Russia Committee"
Our road is correct! We shall be victorious!
