Poland In Crisis

Your letter of information regarding the forthcoming Second World Congress was well received and it had a thorough discussion in our party as how best to make it a success. This is now a reality since the weakness of the Communist movements in former USSR, which means, that to have it in Russia at the moment is impossible. We all feel that the success of the Congress is much more likely if it is held at the Friendship House in Toronto, Canada. In this regard, we wish the organizers success and we shall do everything in our power to be present at this important Congress.
Poland now has become a Third World country and is the new "Banana Republic", where the difference between the rich and the poor is getting ever and ever wider. A more detailed analysis of the present terrible situation in Poland is in a document we are enclosing that was presented and discussed at the Conference of the Czech Communist Party, called "Fifteen Years after the Counter-revolution." This article explains also how the present Polish bourgeoisie is working and its future plans.
Regarding the need and the push of the International Council to establish a United Front in former Soviet Union, we can only help this noble cause morally and politically. In Russia there must be born a new wave of revolutionary fervor, a new revolutionary party, which will head this United Front work. As far as I know, the revolutionary party movements are splintered, while in former Socialist countries of Europe the situation is even worse - as an example- in the Ukraine, - besides the Caucasus and Central Asia’s former republics.
I would suggest that we invite to the Second World Congress representatives from the Communist Party of China, Workers Party of North Korea, Communist Party of Cuba, Vietnam and Laos. It would be beneficial to invite representatives from other Communist parties of European such as France, Germany and others.
Regarding the situation in Poland – there is a very horrendous crisis - not only politically, socially, but above all, economically. The bourgeoisie claims that we are on the verge of booming prosperity, but this is just a manipulation of the dollar and the Euro, which basically is foreign capital. Officially the Polish government will only admit that unemployment in Poland is at 3,000,000 people, but the unofficial figure is closer to 5,000,000 people, 26% of available working force. The membership in the European Union has seen the immigration of hundreds of thousands of young people going abroad to seek work – these are engineers, doctors and other highly trained professional people. This is a new method of draining the intellectuals from Poland to help the imperialists in this brain-drain. This then gives momentum to corruption, to lack of housing, criminality, prostitution and also hunger. It is a fact that thousands of children go to school without any breakfast, because there is no food in the home. This means that 20-30% of Polish families live below the poverty line.
The present Polish regime is supporting Bush’s war in Iraq and had sent Polish soldiers there to die for the American New World Order. This is a dirty war, neocolonialist war and occupation. More than 75% of the Polish people are demanding the return of Polish soldiers and to stop supporting the USA’s genocide against the Iraqi people.
Best wishes to all the readers of Northstar Compass in the coming New Year!
