Jose M. Sisson, 1979
Whatever the part of the day
Whatever the part of the year
The North Star is always there.
No matter how dark the night
We can trust the light
Of the North Star, our guide.
No matter how thick the clouds,
These are froth ephemeral
The North Star scatters and floats.
Wherever we are, in the woods,
On the plains or sea,
By the North Star, we see the route.
In the archipelago, come what may,
We have our sure compass,
The North Star is always there.

Tribute:
To mark the first anniversary of the
passing of comrade Steve Gibson, a veteran communist and trade union leader, a T-class diesel locomotive engine was named after him at a well-attended ceremony at the Newport railway depot recently. A well deserved honour for a great comrade. Comrade Steve was the co-founder of the Australian Friends of Soviet People, plus the October Seventh Socialist Movement and was a keen supporter of Northstar Compass.Help build the sales and circulation of Northstar Compass around the world!

Dear comrade M. Lucas
Chairman of the International Council
Dear comrades:
We received your invitation letter to attend the Second World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People in September of this year. We thank you for the invitation.
We fully support your anti-imperialistic activities, including organizing this important Congress. The news and articles of Northstar Compass are helping us to inform the anti-imperialist movements of the world, and we appreciate getting NSC regularly.
We agree that US imperialism is a major cause for devastations, deaths and suffering for mankind. This Second World Congress will succeed to unite all anti-imperialist forces of the world. We wish that the Soviet People will root out the present reactionary regime, and regain the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Nepalese people and the political parties have been fighting for democracy, for the restoration of the dissolved parliament and local bodies for already two and a half years. Our country is in a critical political situation nowadays. So many political leaders and cadres are in police custody and home arrest, including our Nepal Workers & Peasants Party. There is a State of Emergency now imposed on Nepal and all the fundamental rights are curtailed.
Therefore we will not be able to send a delegate or be with you in Canada. But, we wish the Second World Congress great success and we hope to receive all the presented papers, documents and resolutions of the Congress.
Sincerely yours
Narayan Man Bijukchhen (Rohit)
Chairman
