Socialist Party of Bangladesh
BY KHALEQUZZAMAN
Comrade Chairman, distinguished delegates and guests:
I would like to express my thanks and gratitude, on behalf of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh to the organizers of this Second World Congress. As we are aware, few months ago there was an arson fire at the Friendship House and the Editor of NSC also suffered injuries. We were shocked and got very anxious due to that incident. But despite all of that, you have managed to prepare everything for this grand congress. So you really deserve heartiest congratulations.
As we know, after the death of Stalin, revisionism crept into the CPSU of the USSR. The comrades there are facing a hard challenge. Their struggle can provide all of us a unique and valuable education. On the other hand, the revolutionaries all over the world can help them with their knowledge and experiences. In this respect, the International Council is playing a very important role. So, I appreciate highly the endeavours to have organized this Second World Congress.
Comrades!
We are passing through a critical phase in the history of civilization. The world has turned into a battlefield of two opposing forces, one with an aggressive design to dominate the whole world with economic and military might, and the other standing for justice, equality, freedom and peace. But now, without the USSR, the US is facing little hindrance to impose its savage domination on this world. US Imperialism, headed by George W. Bush is hell bent to impose control over global markets. He is promoting fascist type of aggression and control.
My own country, Bangladesh has also become prey to this US imperialist grab and it is greatly endangered. US has its eyes on the rich hydrocarbon resources in the country and wants to establish control over it. These US demands are bringing to the fore contradictions between China and India, who also have hegemonic aspirations in South Asia. This is threatening peace and stability in the region. Many of the comrades at this World Congress spoke at great length about US imperialism, the economic crisis and the dangers we are all facing. I would like to touch on some questions and problems that was sent to all of us by comrade Michael Lucas – and we will make the following proposals:
(1) The name of the International Council could be: International Council for Socialist Unity and Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People.
(2) The importance of establishing the "Communist International" is unquestionable to us and me. But it’s a crude reality that there are many shades of thinking on different issues in the communist and workers parties around the world. We have to minimize these problems through continuous discussions and also exchange of views amongst ourselves. I do really think that the International Council can play an active role with this end in view.
(3) It is a reality that the USSR does not exist now. But the Communists are very much active in their respective countries that were once part of the Soviet Union. Our suggestion is that the International Council can help them to sit down together and share all of their experiences. Through these activities there might grow a common struggle against creeping fascism in that region.
(4) Maybe some communist parties are still in the dark about International Council’s activities, so they are keeping themselves away from you. I think that drawing them into free discussions and telling them about your activities, more and more of them might solve this problem.
(5) Considering the convenience of easy communication and the availability of all kinds of logistic support, the International Council could be located in either Europe ore North America.
(6) Northstar Compass can certainty have a Russian and a Spanish edition, if the concerned comrades think so and are willing to help out. Regarding finances, a discussion should take place among the delegates present here.
Some Proposals!
First – we should try to establish an anti-imperialist forum in order to coordinate the worldwide struggles against imperialism. It can have different regional branches too.
Second – with a view to creating a Communist International, we should have a platform to conduct discussions among the communist and workers parties who have different shades of opinion on different issues.
Third – due to the capitalist globalization, the struggle of the workers and peasants is becoming globalized too. So, we should take an immediate step to create a platform that will coordinate the struggle of workers and peasants all over the world.
Thank you comrades!
Long Live the Revolution!
