Communiqué from Senegal
By Fallou Gueye
The Rally of African Workers-Senegal (RTA-S) is an anti-imperialist party in our country that was legally created in October of 1996 (after more than 17 years of clandestine activity), after having broken away from the Maoist movement.
The goal of our political organization is to build a strong proletarian party in order to fight for the national liberation of our people that are oppressed by French imperialism in particular. From slavery to colonialism and to semi-colonialism of today, Senegal gained its political independency in 1960, like many other African countries, but it is still under French domination.
Our economy is destroyed by the imperialist institutions - such as the IMF, World Bank, the World Trade Organization that dictates to our government programs that are called structural adjustments. The aid and debt are killing our people because it simply allows the institutional organizations to privatize our economy. Our country is allowed to be sold outright, period! The public sector has practically disappeared. Here are some examples:
The Senegalese water company SONEES has been privatized and sold to a French group – Bouygues.
The telephone company SONATEL, despite its profit of $76.5 billions in 2003-2004, has been sold to France Telecom.
Our cement company has been sold to the French group Vicat.
The oil company sold to Advens, another French group.
The Senegalese Bank of Development is liquidated and replaced by a French commercial banks: SGBS, BICIS, Credit Lyonnais, etc.
The savings of these corporations was revealed by an expert, that over 2,500 billions per year are deposited in Switzerland.
There are military bases in Senegal, French mainly, with a mission not to protect our country, but to protect their interests against any political changes, internally or externally, like in the Congo, Gabon, Central Africa, Cote d’Ivoire etc. – are well known to our people.
This shows that our further development is impossible in this situation of imperialist domination. Our productive forces are destroyed in Senegal and on the continent of Africa. African countries are all facing the same situation of oppression and national liberation movement in order to end the economic dependency – this movement is growing.
Our anti-imperialist political line is linked to a socialist political view, as stipulated in our political program. That strategic goal makes us proud to belong to the world revolutionary camp that aims for the social liberation of the working class.
We know how hard it is to build a revolutionary party for the working class in order to eradicate the exploitation of the masses and to liberate them from oppression, but, at the same time we are aware that there are no other ways to emancipate ourselves and our people. This is the reason why we have faith in our struggle for the liberation and the progress of human beings.
It is obvious that we need international support, solidarity of all anti-imperialist and revolutionary forces around the word, in order to realize our common goal and to create a democratic society in which human beings are put at the center and not profit.
