The newspaper "Bolshevik" which is published in Ukraine, periodically publishes information from the pages of the international journal Northstar Compass. Our readers very often ask us, what kind of journal is NSC and who does it represent? Below we publish an article sent to us from Donetsk.
Canadian comrades are extending their hand of friendship
The dismemberment of the Soviet Union not only affected the
working masses in the former republics of the USSR, but affected the whole
world. It is from that moment onwards that the world bourgeoisie started its
systematic attacks on the political and economic rights of the workers all over
the world. During that period (1991) there started the process of the closing
down in the European countries and on other continents of Friendship Societies
with the USSR. Yes, formally the USSR ceased to exist, but there remained the
Soviet people. It is that part of the Soviet people who did not accept this
temporary dismemberment of their Motherland, and it is these people that remain
and are organizing in order to resurrect the Soviet Union.
That is why the Canada-USSR Association (the only one of all the foreign friendship societies with the USSR, which did not liquidate itself in 1991 as others did) - but renamed itself as the "Society for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People" and is continuing its work of friendship and contacts with the Soviet people. Heading this society is a dedicated friend of the Soviet people, Michael Lucas. He was able to gather around himself comrades who believe in the socialist road for all of humanity and the "Canadian Friends of Soviet People" was established and the "Northstar Compass" journal was started to be published in Canada. If the first state in the world of workers and peasants can be called the North Star, shining for all the people of the world, then this Canadian journal of the Canadian Friends of Soviet People has become absolutely a Compass, showing the people of the whole world the road towards building socialism on this planet of ours, and the USSR was the first attempt in this noble cause.
Last September 23-24-25, 2005 there was held the Second World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People, in Toronto, Canada. There were delegates from 17 countries of the world. Majority of delegates were from Canada and the USA. Not all of the delegates that registered to come were able to get into Canada, and many were refused visas by the Canadian authorities. Knowing this situation might happen, the organizers of the Congress invited written presentations to the Congress and sent ahead of time and thus, these documents were translated into English, Russian, French and Spanish and were included into each delegate’s portfolio.
From Ukraine a written document was sent to the Congress from All Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks. From Russia there were many documents sent and translated. Documents were also sent from Pakistan, Spain, Great Britain, North Korea, Italy, Sri Lanka and many other countries. From Russia there were 4 delegates present. Important decisions were made, and amongst them was the establishment of the "Soviet Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries" (instead of just Russian Society for Friendship) and also, the delegates from Russia undertook to publish very shortly the Russian Edition of Northstar Compass.
During the three days of the Congress the delegates were hard at work on documents, resolutions and other matters. The Main Report about the work of the International Council and Northstar Compass journal was given by Michael Lucas, Chairman and Editor of Northstar Compass.
