China’s Quick Transition to Capitalism

News items from the world media

There is a growing mass struggle in China against the present conditions there and also growing severe criticism of the pro-capitalist line being followed by the present leadership of the Communist Party of China.

There was a news item that in October of 2004 a group of veteran Communist Party of China members, cadres, military personnel and intellectuals have co-authored a document, which they sent to the General Secretary of the CPC.

In spite of thousands of protests by workers and peasants, plus simmering criticism from the left intellectuals, which do not get mass publicity and which is not allowed to be published in the mass media – until now, these CPC cadres and military personnel haven’t been as vocal as they should have been in recent years - in criticizing the pro-capitalist process that is steam-rolling over China.

In this letter to the General Secretary Hu (Jintao), there are listed deep analytical reports of the flaws, the dangers, the charges of mass corruption, the danger of a complete departure from any semblance of socialist construction.

We have not the space to outline in full the document that was sent to the CC of CPC, but we quote some excerpts:

We, as veteran party members, cadres, military personnel and the intellectuals who feel deeply for the party and the people, have for a long time have been deeply concerned where the party is going and where it is heading. There fore we feel that we have the responsibility to present to you some of our views.
