Let the Hammer and Sickle Shine!

by Vladimir Herasymchuk

Regardless of what they say about the contemporary events on the political map of the World, it’s all about the world struggle between Labour and Capital. The ray of Great October continues to light the path for Humanity into the Bright World, towards socialism and communism.

Unfortunately, the way to victory lies through numerous bitter losses and failures. Our country has suffered a tremendous defeat to imperialism at the end of the XX century. Bourgeois apologists constantly repeat lies about the so-called disintegration of the Soviet Union. Nonetheless, there was no disintegration! Our mighty state was disintegrated as a result of imperialist states’ applying colossal material means and resources. Along with this was the especially negative role played by the betrayals of Khrushchev, Gorbachev, Yeltsin and their contemporary ideological heirs. Therefore, we are talking not about disintegration, but about destruction and these two are very different things.

The Soviet people are alive and they are fighting. Vanguard detachments of the world communist movement hit stronger and stronger on imperialism. Communist China strengthens its might, although amidst the most difficult class contradictions. The industrial might of North Korea grows. Roots of socialism become implanted deeper and deeper into the social consciousness in Latin America. Indeed, rumors about the death of world socialism are significantly exaggerated. And the fact that life has a lot of contradictions is just an essence of being, the law of development of the Eternity…

Unfortunately, as any other society, socialism cannot be found in its pure ideal form. As for the USSR, after the counter-revolutionary coup in the country, all former Soviet republics were reconstructed according to bourgeois design. There is a lot of discussion going on today in this regard about Republic of Belarus. Even here the social structure is bourgeois and capitalist. Over 57% of the industrial production in Belarus is made in private enterprises.

At the same time, one can view the election of Lukashenko as President in March 2006 as a victory for left forces, including communists. This is because today’s head of the state has a number of advantages over his opponents. Let us review some of them.

  1. Starting in 1994, when Lukashenko became the President of Belorussia, the country liquidated its economic crisis. The country moved away from the abyss. The economy stabilized. The largest enterprises were not privatized. Agriculture remained in the form of cooperatives. In the future, these industrial and agricultural enterprises under certain conditions can become a socio-economic foundation for socialist reconstruction of the people’s economy.
  2. President Lukashenko under the conditions of the bourgeois state announced social policy oriented towards significant improvement of the standard of living of the population. Capitalist enterprises are under tight government control and the government realizes planning of the country’s economic development.
  3. Belarus of today has no problems between the nations. Both Byelorussian and Russian are official languages of Belarus. The country conducts policy oriented towards restoration of the unity and friendship of the brotherly Slavic peoples and other peoples of the USSR. In the future, the union of Byelorussia and Russia can become an organizational form of the restoration of the multinational Soviet state.
  4. The Republic leads a policy independent of imperialist states. This, no doubt, causes reactions of animosity on the part of the USA and other imperialist states. Despite this, the successes of Byelorussia in social and economic development are becoming increasingly obvious. The respectable position of the country on the international arena is increasing.
  5. Lukashenko is attempting to creatively use the Soviet Union’s experience of economic development. Categorically dismissing the so-called modern liberalization as the one not suitable for the people, he said: "The most understandable ideology and closest to the people is the communist one. The failure of the socialist experiment does not mean the death of the communist ideas. They will live as long as the humans live because in their foundations lie ideas of equality and social justice… Our country has lived with communist worldview through almost the entire XX century. With this ideology we have achieved great victories – over abject poverty, illiteracy and Nazism. With it, we, for the first time, put a path into space… Communist ideology founded on Marxist-Leninist ideology, must become one of the main state ideologies of Belarus" (Pravda, 07.04.2006)

In one of the meetings with journalists the Byelorussian President agreed with the correspondent of newspaper Pravda Oleg Stepanenko who made a comment on the slow down effect of the so-called free market. The journalist noted that implementation of the free market into the economy in the end will cause decrease of production, unemployment and uncontrolled skyrocketing of prices. This is why we must fight not consequences, but causes. "My thoughts are exactly with you, – heard the journalist, – but you see what is happening around, with our neighbours. What can I do?"

In any case, even under the conditions of the bourgeois state, economic and political pressure of the world imperialism, the government of Lukashenko managed to secure relatively high standard of living for its people. Through the neo-colonial dusk of Ukrainian existence we can look at this only as at a utopia and fairy-tale mirage. For example, the policy of building agricultural communities based on the existing villages is definitely worthy of support. The Byelorussians managed to achieve this only through maintenance and rational use of the material resources, created during the Soviet power and through protection of the country from invasion of the foreign capital. The country introduced state regulation and planning into the practice of leadership, as well as clear social orientation onto a Person of Labour. In the Republic, the state ownership of the largest enterprises has not been touched. Cooperative property is preserved in agriculture. The country uses advantages of the Union type of governance between Russia and Byelorussia.

Let us compare: didn’t Roosevelt lead his country out of the abyss in the 1930s? Didn’t he stabilize the American economy, which was rolling straight into catastrophe? And what do we observe there today? Only a blind one will not see the path to catastrophe, which the North American giant is taking today … Free market and free competition are characterized by their merciless natural laws…

At this state of the historic development we wholeheartedly support President Lukashenko who was not afraid to rebel against the entire aggressive armada of the world imperialism. He broke the American-NATO ring, which squeezes Russia and Eastern Slavs and all of the republics of the destroyed Soviet Union. Unfortunately, today neither Putin, nor former member of the CPSU renegade Yushchenko, nor Voronin from Moldova do not realize this…

It is true that we cannot agree when the revolutionary transformations of the Soviet People are being called "failed experiment" (Pravda 07.04.2006) And it is very sad when on the Red flag instead of Hammer and Sickle some states portray its barely visible outline (see the Flag of the Republic Belarus). Aren’t the attempts to withdraw the symbols of the Soviet power from the Victory Flag criminal?! Who are you then, gentlemen new "rulers"?! Or did you forget the end result of previous attempts to destroy the power of Hammer and Sickle?!

Yes, we support Alexander Lukashenko in his struggle for independence and unity of the Country of Soviets and against Uncle Sam’s interference. Lukashenko means dictatorship of Labour over Capital, unbreakable Union of workers, peasants and labouring intellectuals.

And I too believe that not far is the day when golden Hammer and Sickle will shine again over the planet!

Do you hear the bells call?
To the path of Freedom! –
Wise Apollo appeals to the people of the Earth.
So all the peoples could march in peaceful rhythm –
We will rebuild the holy Babylon!

The heavens are ablaze… Our world is split apart again…
So, give me your hand, my brother Arab and Serb!
Through the distance of Eternity I see Hammer and Sickle
On the Scarlet Flag – ours, Soviet coat of arms…
