Statement from the Secretariat of League of Yugoslav Communist Youth

Belgrade, July 10, 2006

Six months after the vote of the anti-communist Council of Europe's Resolution, the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia (Sabor) has adopted a very similar, equally incongruous Resolution, condemning "the communist crimes" of the 1945-1990 period.

Croatia was the first of the former republics of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ) to adopt an anti-communist Resolution. Regarding the very critical economic situation in Croatia now, such a political act is not a bit surprising. It is just one more trick of the current regime to divert public opinion and attention from the revolutionary momentum in Croatia.

What crimes are they talking about? Was it a crime to put on trial the Croatian perpetrators of the most horrible crimes committed in the "independent Croatia State" of the Second World War? Was it a crime to sentence the Nazi criminals to death or long prison sentences? Does the present bourgeois regime in Zagreb expect us to believe that this "Independent Croatian State" under the Nazi regime was a peace-loving state? What is this Croatian Parliament hoping to prove?

During Word War II, after the dismemberment of Yugoslavia, a paramilitary state was formed, calling itself the so-called: "Independent Croatian State."

In this Nazi set-up "state", the most awful crimes were perpetrated by this regime, with willing help from the Croatian Catholic Church. Let us remember the infamous Ustasha Death Factory in Jasenovac. So, it was a crime to convict those who took part in this heinous crime?

Falling In line with this European Union neo-McCarthyism, the Croatian pro-imperialist puppets are just diverting attention from the Croatia's burning problems. One proof is that this Croatian parliament has not in anyway moved to rehabilitate the victims of the political tortures on Goli Otok!

After the liberation of Yugoslavia in 1945, the peoples of Yugoslavia were starting to build socialism and with enthusiasm were looking forward to a new life. On this nearly half-century long road, significant results were achieved in the economic, social, cultural fields, in health, education, science, defence and sports. Yugoslavia reached a remarkable level of development.

So, does the present Croatian Parliament consider all of these achievements to be a "criminal legacy?" At the same time the Croatian Parliament adopted a resolution on "Operation Storm" characterized as "victorious and liberating." What Croatia did during 1990s is nothing more than vicious ethnic cleansing.

After these resolutions were adopted, it is clear that the Croatian regime's call for the refugees to come back to their abandoned villages is as incongruous as ever. Both of these Resolutions are a ridiculous political ploy.

The European Union-made neo-McCarthyism shall never change the truth about the great achievements of socialism in our country, and will not prevent a renaissance of Socialism, and the expulsion of the current pro-imperialist puppet regimes now in the Balkans.
