Estonians Unveil Monument to SS Nazis

From INTERFAX

MOSCOW – Russian government officially condemned last month the unveiling of a monument to Estonian force that fought against the Soviet Union on Nazi Germany’s side during World War II and also the holding of an international meeting in Estonia of veterans who were members of those notorious butchers, the German SS Security Services.

"Our position remains unchanged: facts of this kind are clear evidence of the intentions of the official Tallinn, Estonian officials, in following the line of representing fascists and their henchmen as heroes and to provoke anti-Russian as well as anti-Soviet sentiment", said the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Attempts to rehabilitate people who have millions of human lives on their conscience are outrageous and unacceptable. We also hope that Estonian’s European Union partners will draw the attention of the Estonian side to all of this", the commentary concluded.

Report from Russia about the repressions against the participants of the Second Russian Social Forum

On July 12-16 2006 in Saint Petersburg took place the Second Russian Social Forum. It was held as a counter-summit to the G-8 summit and had official permit from the Russian government and vice-governor of Saint Petersburg Tarasov. Despite of the permits, Russian police unfolded an exceptionally well-informed and centrally coordinated all-Russian campaign for preventing left activists from travel to Saint Petersburg. Here is one of the examples. In Novosibirsk two hours prior to his train departure disappeared a potential Forum participant and leader of the local branch of Vanguard of Communist Youth Vadim Ivanov. As it turned out later, on his way to the railway station two men in civil clothing approached him, yelled "Police!" and shoved him into a car. In the vehicle, they introduced themselves as employees of the Regional Bureau for Fighting Organized Crime (RUBOP) and showed their IDs. They searched Ivanov and "found" 24.5 grams of hashish. Ivanov was arrested and investigation started on him for possessing drugs in large quantities. He was forced to sign a document about not leaving the city until the end of investigation. Ivanov commented: "I am not an idiot to carry hashish to the anti-G-8 Forum. After almost complete cease of National Bolshevik’s activity in our city of Novosibirsk, Vanguard of Communist Youth is practically the only left radical organization in the region. We are the biggest headache for the government. I think the purpose of the state was not only to prevent me from going to anti-Summit, but also to demoralize my comrades. However, they failed. Even if they give me a sentence, our organization will live!"

The report on repressions Northstar Compass received from Russia consists of 15 pages of names of people subjected to similar detentions, arrests and persecutions by the Russian police. Among the organizations whose members were victims of this lawlessness, brutal beatings and deprivation of freedom were Vanguard of Communist Youth, Committee of Solidarity Actions, Union of the Coordination Soviets of Russia, Confederation of Free Unions, Siberian Confederation of Labour and other trade unions, Union of Communist Youth, Socialist Movement "Vpered!" ("Forward!"), National Bolshevik Party, Left Youth Front, various ecological organizations, such as "Groza" ("Storm") and "Ekozashchita" ("Eco-defense"), and other left organizations. The operation for preventing the participants from attending the Second Russian Social Forum had a name All-Russian Operation "Zaslon" ("Cover") and reports about physical and human rights abuse came from Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Izhevsk, Tomsk, Kazan, Saratov, Chita, Rostov-na-Donu, Ulianovsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Yaroslavl, Orenburg, Barnaul, Novoaltaisk, Dzerzhinsk, Biysk, Zagorsk, Omsk, Engelsk, Ekarinburg and Tula.

The detentions were conducted under the most ridiculous excuses, such as checking or confiscating passports, use of foul language and false criminal accusations. Police searched for one of the activists in her mother’s village hut having surprised and frightened the old woman with the "fact" that her daughter poses a threat to the security of the leaders of the USA, the UK, France and other G-8 countries. Police went as far as to advise some of the Second Russian Social Forum participants with great care not to attend the Forum because such event, according to them, is full of terrorists and Chechen extremists who might hurt them. The police threatened not only the Forum participants, but also their parents and other family members.

The Committee for Resistance of the Siberian Confederation of Labour made a statement, in which it called upon all people of Russia in the face of the upcoming state fascism to sabotage work in all enterprises and state organizations, to distribute political paraphernalia and hold public meetings disclosing fascist politicians’ and their media’s insane lies. The Committee called upon all honest people to sabotage everywhere until the fall of this fascist regime.

Anti-Crisis Coalition in Ukraine

By GALINA SAVCHENKO

Into this coalition there came Party of the Regions, Communist Party, Socialist Party and other smaller groups and some Deputies.

The aim is to protest against making Ukraine part of NATO’s anti-Russian platform; for the complete unity economically with Russia, Byelorussia and Kazakhstan; for the recognition of the Russian language to have an equal status with the Ukrainian language – with these in mind, the patriotic forces of Ukraine have joined forces in protest, not looking at party affiliation or personal ambitions of some of these leaders.

We all protested the terrible economic, political and cultural situation that is now in Ukraine for over 6 months, and growing worse with each day – this is the main task of this coalition!

We surrounded the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine with placards, posters, flags, of all colours, blue and yellow, red and green flags. There were clashes with the orange counter-revolution youth hooligans when the protest was to defend the Orthodox Russian Church from being demolished.

Tell me in what other country an Ambassador of a foreign country is appointed as a Consultant to the President?

Only in Ukraine is this possible! Mr. Shtudeman, Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine, was appointed as an official high-ranking Consultant to the president of Ukraine. Even the capitalist TV channel in Ukraine could not but help to ridicule this, saying that Ukraine is now governed by "NATO Puppets"! Both Ukrainian leader and this Consultant spoke the same, world for word, as if written by the same hand.

The situation in Ukraine has reached and impasse and a dead- end. The Government is about to be disbanded!

Thousands of communist demonstrators protested with signs, banners and slogans.
A large contingent was from the Party of the Regions and Orthodox Believers demonstrated in solidarity with others.
