One More Lesson for the Bandera-Gang*

by Vladimir Pronin

A year has gone by since that memorable October day when in the capital of Ukraine violent clashes occurred between the Ukrainian left and the remnants of the pro-fascist nationalist forces. On the anniversary of the foundation of the so called Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) the latter made yet another attempt to march down the central street of Kiev, Khreshchatik and hold a rally and a church service in honour of Ukrainian collaborators on the Maidan Square, which has become world known for the "orange" coup. Back then they did not succeed and, moreover, the opponents significantly beat their bodies and mugs.

It would seem the lesson the Bandera-Gang were taught that day in Kiev would put an end to their aspirations to repeat such onslaught into the capital from their homeland – Western Ukraine. This would be an end to such excursions if the pro-fascist forces in Ukraine did not feel constant support of the "orange" President of Ukraine. It is not by chance that the President is married to an American citizen and a former secretary of the late Slava Stetsko – wife and faithful friend of Bandera’s closest collaborator, Yaroslav Stetsko! Besides, American masters, no doubt, are the ones who have pushed their protégé to such an open confrontation as the UPA march in the centre of Kiev!

This year, too, Viktor Yushchenko dedicated to the anniversary of creation of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) the adoption of a decree, according to which, on one hand, the heroic veterans of the Great Patriotic War who carried on their shoulders the main weight of the war and, eventually, broke the spine of the fascist beast, and on the other, cowardly "fighters" of UPA who shot the Red Army soldiers in the back and fought on the side of Hitler’s Germany against the Red Army and, in its face, against the entire anti-Hitler coalition, today enjoy equal rights! Today, only the Ukrainian Parliament can prevent from implementing into life this shameful criminal presidential decree.

Naturally, these trimmings of the Nazi tails, encouraged by such a "high level" support, yet again attempted to make their point and march right in the centre of the capital of Ukraine. And the city authorities, obviously prompted by the decision makers "above", permitted this. However, contrary to the last year’s event, and obviously having learned from the bitter experience of the nationalist leftovers, this time the authorities tried to separate the irreconcilable opponents into different locations to avoid their direct collision.

Of course, no one prevented the right-wing nationalists to gather and march to the location of their rally, while the left forces and their supporters – anti-nationalist movements – were divided into three groups and were not allowed to have a joint rally. For this reason, communists held their rally right on Maidan Square, progressive-socialists (for the sake of being just we must admit they were the most numerous) – on the Bessarabska Square, and the Orthodox societies, Russian Bloc and the majority of the communists who did not manage to break through to Maidan Square, held their rally on the opposite side of Khreshchatik. Regardless of being disunited, the rallies were very successful and the nationalist provocateurs who managed to sneak into midst of the opposition were beaten by the crowd and betrayed by an unprecedented number of police. Unfortunately, our supporters were arrested as well. Youth from Crimea and their Russian and Byelorussian comrades were brutally beaten, as was reported by their representatives at the press conference. Some had their ribs broken. Infuriated officers of state security services, like gendarmes, forced one young representative from the brotherly Byelorussian people onto his knees and beat his inner body parts heavily from behind.

Despite of the fact that a joint rally was impossible to hold, the speakers in different corners of Khreshchatik were united in their condemnation of the attempts to rehabilitate the Bandera-Gangs and declared about their firm certitude that the followers of bloodthirsty Bandera will continue to be decisively repulsed every time they declare their presence on Khreshchatik. This is in case they do not learn from their second lesson and dare to show up in the capital city again.

Those carefully following the events in Ukraine might be interested in finding out that the representatives of the Party of Regions who used to very actively play the Russian card and insisted upon their non-tolerance of the ideology and practice of Ukrainian nationalism, which has been brewed on savage Russo-phobia, not only did not participate in the action, but in addition, prohibited the members of their youth organization to attend it. Well, by doing this they have only once more confirmed that mammon has no homeland.

As to the nationalists themselves, they had to hold their action on Sofia Square, after which they left without much result. To put it briefly, they dragged out their nationalist storm troopers who have been taught, trained and fitted out all for American dollars to Kiev in vain. Wasted bucks!
