Third World Congress in November of 2007 Is Cancelled

Dear friends of the Soviet People!

Due to many unforeseen factors, the decision of the Executive Committee and the Editorial Board of Northstar Compass to hold the Third World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People on November 6-7-8, 2007, on the 90th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution has to be unfortunately cancelled.

There are many reasons for this decision - amongst some of them are:

* Policy of the present Russian regime towards the Congress that has as its main objective to help the Soviet people in restoring the Soviet Union and Socialism and thus doing away with capitalism.

* Chairman of the International Council and Editor of NSC, Michael Lucas, still is not able to get a visa to visit Moscow.

* The Soviet Friendship Society with Foreign Countries and the Russian Academy of Sciences (our hosts) unfortunately are not able so far, to come up with the needed finances to help with accommodations and meals for all of the foreign delegates.

* Northstar Compass – Russian Edition – it seems that due to lack of finances and help from other sources is not able to continue publishing.

* A decision was made by all of the Mini-Conference delegates that gathered on the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of NSC, that comrade Chechentsev, Chairman of the Soviet Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Michael Lucas were to travel to some cities-contacts in some former Soviet republics in December of 2006 to promote the Third World Congress and ask for help in organizing the Congress.

Because the visa question was not settled, it was impossible for Michael Lucas to travel there.

* Our comrades in ex-USSR are having a very difficult time in breaking through the daily media blockade by the present bourgeois regime. Besides this hurdle, there are so many splinters in the progressive movements, which makes it so much easier for the regime to proceed with the policy of "Divide and Rule".

We would like to thank very sincerely Professor David Dzhohadze of the Russian Academy of Sciences for his excellent Congress plans and programme, as well as the Soviet Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries for their preparations under the most trying circumstances that are in present-day former Soviet Union.

This Third World Congress question will be discussed very seriously by all of the International Council members as well as members of the Editorial Board of NSC, as to a venue to hold the Congress in 2008. All readers of NSC shall be informed as soon as any decision is made.

We want to wish our comrades in the Soviet Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries much success in their daily struggles for the resurrection of the Soviet Union and Socialism in the coming year, the 90th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution!

On behalf of the International Council and NSC
Michael Lucas, Chairman and Editor
