For Unity of All Communist Parties in Former USSR!

Dear friends and comrades.

We are reprinting this CALL FOR UNITY by Gennady Zyuganov, head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) as was reported by Interfax, January 20, 2007 in Moscow. This call is very important because it is the first official call by the head of the CPRF at this crucial time and on this the 90th Anniversary of the Great October Revolution.

Readers of NSC are aware that our policy for the last 15 years was geared towards this unity question as dedicated friends of the Soviet people since 1918.

We were and are criticized by some left parties in the West as well as in former Soviet Union that, in a sense are telling us to "keep your noses clean", because they say that they are the only ones that can present a program and have the right to work towards this Communist and Workers’ Parties unity.

But as things unfolded and are unfolding since the demise of the USSR in the 1990’s, words are words, but deeds must be deeds, and, now the time has passed for constant philosophical discussions, arguments, seminars, attacks on each other, instead of unifying these attacks against the enemy, which is of course very happy to disorganize, dissolve, give birth and rebirth to numerous Communist parties and patriotic movements in order to divide and rule.

NSC has constructively criticized Zyuganov and the CPRF before on some aspects of their policies, as well as did other comrades in ex-USSR. Constructive criticism is what Lenin and Stalin utilized in order to move the struggle forward.

The axiom that must prevail is that, it is the people who will make the changes necessary to resurrect the Soviet Union and Socialism and not only its leaders – we cannot have a struggle with only Generals but with no troops to follow – regardless how good, clever and dedicated he or she might be. Class struggle means just that!

We hope that this Call, if we take it at its word, will bring about this needed unity of all the forces that are dedicated - or say that they are dedicated - for the overthrow not only of Imperialism, but also of the internal enemies that are doing the bidding of US imperialism and its headlong dash towards the new Fascist New World Order!

Below is the CALL from the CPRF:

MOSCOW: Russian Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov has called upon all Communist parties in former Soviet Republics to combine all of their efforts in 2007, which is the 90th Anniversary of the 1917 Great October Socialist Revolution.

"The Communist Parties can and must be in the lead of a powerful social movement for returning everything to the working people what the oligarchy and state bureaucracy have taken away from them, namely the Soviet people’s rule, the ownership of the means of production, the socialist way of development, the union state uniting brotherly nations, and all social rights and the guarantees," Gennady Zyuganov said at the plenary session of the Council of the Union of Communist Parties in Moscow.

He stated that the leftist political forces are gaining ground in many countries of the world, but he noted that at the same time, the present regimes in Russia and in most other former Soviet Republics are dong all that they can to minimize the Communist forces’ influence on the public consciousness.

"We have worked together in a complicated and tense atmosphere in the past years, The bourgeois authorities in all former republics of the Soviet Union, except in Belarus and Moldova, are continuing their daily onslaught on the working peoples’ social rights.

Anti-Soviet, nationalistic and Russophobic sentiments are being encouraged and promoted by the United States, NATO and the European Union in the Baltic States, Ukraine and in Georgia.

The present Russian power institutions and oligarchs and present regime’s bureaucracy have unleashed and are waging gas, wine, meat, sugar and other wars against the former Soviet republics. The Communist Party of Russian Federation finds it increasingly more difficult to work while the ruling class uses its incumbency leverage in the elections.

In order to split the Russian voters, the present regime sets up fly-by-night parties and duplicates of many patriotic and opposition organizations as well as movements - provocations are staged to fuel fascist terror against members of non-ethnic groups, and Zionist sentiments are being cultivated."

Gennady Zyuganov also said that: "Behind all of this is the guiding hand of US imperialist globalists, who seek to turn our countries (former Republics of the USSR-Editor) into colonies and prevent the unification of fraternal nations into one Union of sovereign and equal republics."

"The answer to all this is that the Communists should seek to improve real coordination between all of the existing Communist Parties in the former Soviet Union" – Zyuganov said.

"There are of course theoretical disagreements and different points of view on the forms and methods of organizational work, but this should not obstruct the unification of the Communist Parties in the name of the main goal – to win political power from the present regime!"

The same goal, the same slogans and consolidated actions – this is what can bring success to the Communists at the present stage of our struggles" Zyuganov concluded.

As the first step, Zyuganov proposed the completion of the Union of Belarus and Russia as the start of this process of unification.

Gennady Zyuganov also stated that the Communist Parties are gaining strength and more authority in the North and South Caucasus, primarily in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and proposed to call soon a Congress of the Caucasus peoples in April of 2007
