A Statement of the CPBM to the opened bargain of US and Czech governments
about establishing of a radar military base on our territory
The Communists have been the only parliamentary politics power in Czech Republic
which, even before parliamentary elections - when other parties, including those in government, smoke-screened their true positions - highlighted the real danger of a US military base or US radar station being set up on our territory. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia specifically warned of these developments in its election manifesto. The CPBM demands that this important issue should be decided by a Referendum!
Even last year, the CPBM presented a proposal of a Constitutional Law about the Referendum in case US anti-missile systems were deployed in the territory of the Czech Republic: and it shall present this proposal again. The holding of a Referendum on this issue is vital, as it is a matter of the greatest importance for the sovereignty and independence of the Czech Republic.
It is also necessary to underline that new missile bases do not provide jobs for local people.
This has been proved by past experience right across the world. The propaganda of both right-wing parties and the Social Democrats has reassured some of our citizens: those who are willing to accept that a radar station is 'less dangerous'' or even a positive 'benefit' for our country.
The opposite is true!
We would draw the attention of the citizens of the Czech Republic to the fact: that a radar station is just as dangerous as an anti-missile base, because radar represents the eyes and ears of the missile systems.
The Czech Republic is bound by its alliance obligations; and thus it is incongruous to make any bilateral agreements with the USA.
It is typical of the Czech right-wing – which has attained a parliamentary majority only through the betrayal of two Social Democrat deputies – that it betrays both Czech citizens and the sovereignty of our country!
The CPBM is still gathering a petition against establishing both a foreign military base and a radar station for anti-missile defence on our territory. It calls upon all citizens to add their names to the 55,000 signatures that have already been collected for the petition.

Communist Youth Union (KSM)
Dear Comrades:
We are sending you an English translation of the decision of the Czech Ministry of the Interior of the official dissolution of the Communist Youth Union (KSM). We have filed an action against this ban because this is part of a huge anti-communist campaign in the Czech Republic. The conflict will continue in the court and you shall be informed.
Comrades – we also want to inform you that the KSM, in spite of the witch-hunt that is being exerted against this youth organization which is continuing its activities. The KSM is an active party of a growing movement against the plan by the present regime too place US-NATO military base in the Czech Republic. We were the first organization that started this struggle against this plan and we were later joined by other organizations. We are establishing new local organizations in the country.
The situation in the Czech Republic is very complicated and it will deteriorate even more. After 7 months of political crisis without a government backed by a majority of parliament, a new majority rightwing government led by a right-wing party – the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) has now been installed. This government will bring even more attacks on the social and economic positions of the working people and of the unemployed people.
The development in our country has a tendency to political and social polarization and the KSM will continue to play its active role in the class struggle amongst the people oppressed by capitalist system.
Comrades, we want to express to you again our gratitude for your support.
Comradely yours
Radim Gonda
Vice Chairman of the KSM
Czech Republic
