Communist Party of Greece Protests to the Romanian Authorities

Sirs:

As we have recently been informed by the press reports, "Marshal Ion Antonescu, the former Head of the Iron Guard, Horia Sima and other 19 members of the Romanian Government in the 1940’s were now acquitted for their war crimes by the present Bucharest Court of Appeals."

In our view this tribunal in fact rewards the aggression of fascist Hitler’s Germany, backed by the fascist Romanian government that was led by I. Antonescu, against the USSR, as well as the Nazi crimes against the Romanian people and against all of humanity.

This decision is a provocation for all people in the world and in Greece, which resisted and fought with all their force against fascism in the resistance movement, concentration camps and prisons. It’s an act against the people and blasphemy to the memory of millions dead in this anti-fascist struggle. It’s also a decision slandering the popular movements all over the world against war, fascism and imperialism.

This development, only a few days after Romania joined the European Union, is certainly not a coincidence at all.

This also comes by the official Romanian statement last December, 2006, "condemning communism", which uncovers the real goals of the anti-communist campaign which is in process in the European Union.

We demand an immediate withdrawal of this anti-democratic and reactionary measure. We express our solidarity with the progressive forces and the people of Romania in their struggle against any type of neo-fascism. Onwards towards peace and democracy!
