Dear friends:

We are very glad that NSC is now going to have also a Spanish Edition.

We also hope that the International Council will also be able to help the Canadian Slav Committee in its work.

Our work and priority here in the Czech Republic is to work towards the rejection of the US missile base in our state territory, which is a danger not only for us, but for people of Russia especially. It is also important for all of us to expose the lies about Byelorussia, to condemn the US tendency to seize Serbian Kosovo, to defeat the US policy in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Cuba etc. The constant crimes against the Palestinian people must be stopped and those responsible must be punished.

The political situation in the Czech Republic is very complicated. The Czech right-wing government is very servile to US proposals. The opposition in our parliament is for a referendum to take place. Over 70% of our citizens are against the US bases. The witch-hunt against Communists and progressive people is organized through the daily media, TV and lies are spread constantly against the communist party and the whole history of the communist struggle.

There is constant propaganda and lies against Byelorussia, North Korea and Cuba. The intention here is to isolate the Communists and then to outlaw the party. Various progressive young people are demonstrating against the US bases, against the neo-fascist elements – an example was the May Day celebration in Prague and it was persecuted and many demonstrators were arrested by the police. There’s very real danger that the Czech Republic will become a police state.

In our protests we are against the NATO policy and activity and violation of international law and humans rights!
