Great comradely thanks, our dear friends!In spite of the provocations and the threats from the Ukrainian Government, on May 9, 1994, the Day of Victory, there was marching our huge Red Column, with Soviet flags flying and with Red Banners, along Kreshchatik Square in Kiev, while hundreds of photographers were gathered there, expecting a bloody attack against the marchers as was done by Boris Yeltsin on October 3-4,1993 in Moscow, when he ordered the tank cannon bombardment of the Soviet Parliament building (White House) with thousands being killed.
At that time, I left my marching column and was giving out our leaflets to the correspondents. Not one correspondent refused to take my leaflet.
One correspondent, to whom I am very thankful in 1994, somehow gave this leaflet to the Editor of Northstar Compass in Canada. In this way we in Ukraine and in the “Movement for USSR” became acquainted with the Northstar Compass journal and its Editor, Michael Lucas.
We all thought that after this tragedy of the dismemberment of the USSR, the victory of the left-wing forces will be swift – after all, we must not forget that our fathers and mothers defeated German fascism and the Ukrainian bandits in 4 years!
We were wrong! There were already 4 wars inside the USSR – and our generation is still struggling and fighting…
In these 16 years our people changed very much – not for better but for worse – they accepted unemployment, orphaned children, and beggars on the street. But the biggest change amongst the people that was never-ever prevalent during Soviet times – is now – not giving a damn!
I will never forget when US imperialism attacked Iraq, the tremendous demonstrations that took place in Italy, France and all across the world, but, our Ukrainian “citizens did not move” and did not march shoulder-to-shoulder with all of the Communists in protest against this world aggressor.
And now, a new danger has come into our home, the move by the present Ukrainian nationalistic regime to push Ukraine into NATO –this is done through daily media propaganda, like the following tidbits aimed at the young generation:
This is the cardinal purpose to get Ukraine into NATO at all costs.
But 16 years of our common struggles were not in vain! The world has now seen as to who is who! The world’s people have also realized that the resurrection of the Soviet Union – is the planets absolute need!
Let us also not forget that the first cry for this need for the resurrection of the USSR – was the Editorial Collective of Northstar Compass!
