The attempt to grab land is not new to the people of Nandigram, West Bengal, India, and the actins of the State administration in alliance with the ruling Indian Communist Marxist Party (CPI(M) have a violent history going back to 2006.
One must not be deceived by the seemingly progressive title of the CPI (M), for it has very close ties with the State Administration that is aligned with US Imperialism, who want to develop a Chemical Hub for Dow Chemical, in India. This infamous Dow Chemical, even before the Assembly election in 2006, a middleman G.M. Buddha was sent to Indonesia and signed an agreement which promised to the infamous Salin group the land for the development of various foreign projects in West Bengal, to be designated as a Special Economic Zone. Dow Chemical is the creator of napalm bombs used in Vietnam and elsewhere.
One can surmise as to who funded the 2006 election for the ruling party of Bengal in order to assure the land site would be available. Aware of the Singur episode, when lands were taken by force for the Tata Small Car project from the unwilling peasants, who wee mercilessly beaten on September 2, 2006, the people of Nandigram organized themselves in advance in order to voice their protest and they built barricades at different entry points.
On the 3rd and 6th and 7th of January 2007, with the objective of seizing the land, a ruthless carnage of genocide and mass rape was unleashed upon the local peasants of Nandigram, who have lived there and worked their farms for many hundreds of yes. The State and the ruling party CPI(M) sponsored this vile action. The peasants suffered through this horrific attack and many lives were lost and many peasants were injured.
BLACK WEDNESDAY MARCH 14, 2007
The State and the CPI(M) being unsuccessful in Nandigram, now together in an alliance planned yet another attack. On the morning of March 4, a most brutal and bloody event took place against the villages at Nandigram. The following information is from the All India fact finding team:
At least two days before, the Secretary of Home Affairs stated publicly that they would forcibly enter Nandigram. On the morning of March 14, the police entered at the CPI(M) base, while villagers were involved in religious activities. Without warning, in 10 minutes the entire areas was engulfed in tear gas and smoke; police fired bullets, mostly above the waistline of the villagers; then a stampede ensued and police chased the villages while shooting them in the back. Houses were looted and burned; people were mercilessly beaten; women were raped and molested; children were kidnapped, killed and even torn apart by pulling aside their legs; bodies were thrown and buried in trenches; untold number of bodies were thrown in the sea with their bellies cut open so that the bodies would sink and not be found!
The ruling Communist Party of India (M) and the West Bengal Government tried to cover its dark deeds by releasing absolute false propaganda, that it was the Maoist subversives that infiltrated and agitated the peasants, thus trying to give this massacre a religious tone. The facts remain that the West Bengal Government in concert with the ruling CMP(M) organized and executed this planned attack, we core criminals were recruited by a mastermind from Haldia, who also provided the CPI(M) with lethal weapons. This mercenary army posed as party cadres of the CPI(M). There were about 3,000 policemen, all hand-picked and trigger happy, brought in from other districts to area. Yes, this was the Black Wednesday.
To distract the apprehensive peasants from offering more resistance to this large scale massive mobilization of armed criminals and musclemen on the Khejuri side, on November 5, 2007 the local administration under the directive of the CPI(M) government convened a bogus meeting with the Committee for Resisting Eviction for the Land (BPUC) and the demands by BPUC to stop the firing and eviction and to offer relief for the displaced villagers – this was meant to give an impression of reviving peace in Nandigram. This proved to be a great hoax, because on the morning of November 7th – trampling under foot all of the promises made, these criminals of the CPI(M) began their attacks. All entrances to the five points to Nandigram were cut off, with no escape and no end to the beastly killing, torture, rape, slashing by knives, beating, arson, ransacking upon the old, the children, the women, sick patients and physically handicap people of Nandigram.
The CPIM) waged a much more ruthless attack at this time that would have made Hitler, Mussolini and Bush envious!
To counter this propaganda that it was the Maoists that were responsible, the peasants organized two peaceful marches on November 10th of unarmed peasants. Suddenly the CPI(M) sponsored gangsters swooped down on these two peaceful marches by the peasants, killing hundreds of people, abducting about 2,000 to Khejur and there subjecting them to concentration camp-like torture and hounding at least 20,000 villagers out of their homes. The State Secretary admitted that “Nandigram has turned into a war zone.”
On Nov ember 11 peaceful demonstration of celebrities, artists, educators, writers, theater personalities, scientists, teachers, journalists, law and medical practitioners from all walks of life protested this government carnage against the people of Nandigram. All India Nandigram Protest Day was observed on November 12th, initiated by the Socialist Unity Center of India.
This insanity must stop! Toiling people have now begun to break the shackles against those masquerading themselves as Marxists. Like Vietnam or Iraq, Nandigram is a rallying point of protest against oppression by the powerful rulers.
People! Break this silence, refrain from any acquiescence, take up the cudgel by uniting and rallying behind the genuine revolutionary movements!
Great care has been taken to report the events about Nandigram without judgments. These are facts and you be the judge on this horrendous episode that took place in Nandigram. You can see what is going on in other parts of the world, the globalization, which is another word or world domination. There is an old Italian saying: “The musicians are different, but the music is the same.”
In my presentation to
the All India Anti-Imperialist Forum I ended my speech with these words:
“You are to be commended for your show of support, your interest, ad for so many of you who are present in this huge auditorium as far as my eyes can see. I see all of you! I see you all! I am very proud and humble in front of all of you. I represent the International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People and the Editorial Board of Northstar Compass which is read in 79 countries of the world, including India.”
The applause was heartwarming and I raised my fist in a solidarity salute to this mass gathering at this Forum in Kolkota, India. The applause followed me (as is the custom here) until I took my seat.
I shall
never forget
this event.
