U.S. Friends of Soviet People Met in New York City

Under the banner “We’re Back!” over a dozen delegates from across the United States gathered in New York City at the International Action Center to plan out activities for the coming year.

Behind a dais draped in crimson red and with a Soviet Flag hanging proudly on the wall, the U.S. Friends of Soviet People, the North American affiliate of the International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People, held their 2008 Membership Meting.

Among the resolutions debated and passed were: to take steps to increase the circulation of the Northstar Compass journal; to distribute leaflets targeted at certain groups, like those struggling against the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; struggling for more financial help for education, hospital care, against high cost of medicines and for decent housing.

All of these problems can only be solved by Socialism as they were solved when the USSR existed.

It was decided that UFSP Bulletin should be published at least 4 times per year and distributed at each event that will be held. This UFSP Bulletin would welcome short letters, have a regular column called “Pages From Our Past” and accept advertising and memorials with photos where possible our members who have passed away.

Another re\solution was passed to send a delegate to the World Youth Festival in Minsk, Byelorussia and possibly to the International Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Fascist Youth Camp in Brazil. Our delegate will go with copies of Northstar Compass and copies of the UFSP Bulletin.

It was also resolved to send a larger delegation to Toronto, Canada this coming October 10-11-12, 2008 for the meeting of the International Council.

The final resolution was passed asking that in each issue of NSC there should be a request asking US readers to contact the UFSP by calling this telephone number: (718) 667-4740.
