Soviet Friendship Society in Action

WITHIN THE MOVEMENT FOR THE REBIRTH OF THE USSR AND SOCIALISM

Our Society cooperates actively with all the organizations and movements involved in the struggles. In particular we cooperate with the Russian Communist Workers’ Party-The Revolutionary Party of Communists, the CPSU, the RCP-CPSU, the youth organization RCYL(B) and the AKM-TR. The struggle takes various forms, including involvement in the labour movements and also in the protest movements. This is accomplished, first of all, by the publication of the Russian language Northstar Compass. We also distribute the English language NSC as well as the news from the communist movements and the anti-imperialist struggles.

THE NSC JOURNAL

The publication of NSC is central to our Society’s activities. We started to publish NSC in late 2005. We try to keep up the tempo and keep producing about 6 issues per year. By this tine of 2008 we have published 4 issues. The financial help we get from the International Council. (This financial help comes from the generosity that is given exclusively of the Society of Carpatho-Russian Canadians, as was reported to all delegates by the Financial Report at the Conference by the Financial Secretary, Helen Lucas. The input by Irina Malenko from N. Ireland and Marina Donchenko in Moscow has been great, as well as by other members. The journal is then edited and typeset by an enthusiastic team headed by Vladimir Chechentsev.

Most issues are printed by RCWP-RPC in Moscow. Sad to say that the process is slow, but we try to include the most important articles from the English Edition of NSC. We have got many subscribers in Russia and in some other former Soviet Republics. We have several hundred subscribers.

THE NSC WEEBSITE

The Russian NSC website at http://www.ns-c.org is updated regularly. We make most articles in Russian NSC available on-line.

COORDINATION IN RUSSIA

We keep ties with a number of public organizations in Russia. Apart from the left-wing political parties – Sojuz which is a public movement headed by Georgii Tikhonov, the Venceremos group, the International Union of Slavic Journalists, the Cuban Embassy in Russia, the Soyuz Concert Studio and many others.

While we are developing broad public support, we realize that the input by Communists in the task of re-establishing the USSR is crucial and very central to our movement.

INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY

Our Society had been watching actively all of the events around the world, such as supporting the Cuban Five, having pickets and protests and distributing literature. We spoke in support of movements against imperialism. We issued a number of statements against the war, condemning the US aggression in the Middle East.

THE FUTURE

We aim to increase the international awareness of the new struggle for Socialism where it first materialized as a political power. We see it as an integral part of the revolutionary, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist struggle around the world.

What we all hope for is that the next Third World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People will be held on the territory of the USSR. There was a proposal to hold it in Minsk, Belarus, but there were no concrete developments. There was a proposal to hold it in Moscow on the premises of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2007, but there was lack of support from the Russian Academy of Sciences and from other public organizations.

The Third World Congress can be held in 2009 at Gorky Leninskie, given that the International Council covers all the expenses.

We have discussed this proposal with the Moscow Committee of the RCWP-RPC. The comrades have supported this initiative. The Moscow Committee of the party can take care of the organizational matters.

We have a long way to go, but we are very enthusiastic about accomplishing the tasks set forth. We believe that we will attain victory only if we apply Marxist-Leninist principles to the modern conditions and act as art of the communist movement. Our international ties make our struggle stronger and stronger en route to the worlds- wide triumph of Communism.

Long live the new Socialist Revolution!
