MOSCOW (AFP) The Vladivostok Daily News last month reported that the Russian border guards repeatedly fired on a Chinese and Indonesian-crew cargo ship that had trouble off its Far Eastern coast, sparking great concern in Beijing.
China called upon Russia to conduct a full investigation into this mishap, which resulted in 8 Chinese crew and 6 Indonesians that were drowned.
Russian officials charged that the ship, New Star left the Nakhodka Port without authorization after being sequestered there for smuggling – the ship repeatedly ignored warnings to stop. The captain of the New Star was repeatedly asked to stop through radio communications, lights, a flag and warning shots. But the ship did not stop! – charged Alexander Selentsov, an official of the City of Vladivostok. The border guards than received the order from the Federal Security Service to fire on the ship.
Interfax reported that on its return back hit a storm, forcing its crew to disembark onto two eight-person rescue boats. Russian guards managed to rescue some crew members while the other ship sunk with all of its eight crew drowned.
Last February 2, 2009 over 300 workers near Kherson started a protest against non-payment of wages since September 2008. The workers then occupied the plant, elected a committee that called for sympathy strikes all across Ukraine. They demanded the nationalization of the plant without any compensation to the private owners of this plant.
This Kherson Farm Machinery Plant was founded 120 years ago and during Soviet times it produced world-class farm machinery not only for other Soviet Republics but for other countries as well.
This is the start of a new revolutionary trade union in Ukraine. They are against the state-sponsored trade unions which do not represent the interests of the workers at al, and they are just willing tools in the hands of the private capitalist owners who exploit the workers.
One of the best-known Soviet melodies and words “KATUSHA” is still sung already for 70 years. This song and the Soviet rockets was called "Katusha” and was the terror for the German Nazis during the Great Patriotic War.
The words of the song are about a girl who is pining for her boyfriend serving in the Soviet Red Army. This song was performed by all the well-known Soviet singers at home and at the front, and is about apples and pears blooming on trees. The Red Army Soldiers adopted this song as their favorite and named the Soviet Rocket “Katusha” – BM-8, BM-13 and BM-16. The German soldiers named this rocket missile that they feared – “Stalin’s Music” and “Stalin’s Song”.

Dear Editor:
Reading a letter published in NSC of a very upset reader about the medal received by a nationalist Ukrainian Canadian in Saskatchewan was awarded a medal by President Yushenko of Ukraine on his last visit to Canada.
What can you tell this reader of NSC? He should remember that at the end of 1990’s when Ukraine was living out its last days, these Ukrainian nationalists in Western Ukraine already had organized the organization RUH, with outside help, having been able to infiltrate the party-government apparatus and Ukraine went into the hands of these nationalists and lovers of Bandera and started to rename streets and squares. The same thing happened in 1941 when the Nazis occupied Ukraine and renamed streets and squares to Adolph Hitler. But the Soviet people united and fought these Nazis in order to defend the Soviet names and history. This present Ukrainian nationalist regime now is doing the same as the German Nazis did.
This Canadian Ukrainian nationalist who received this “honor” is part of hundreds of these Banderites who ran away during and after World War II from the wrath of their own people.
The present regime of Viktor Yushenko awarded this Nazi lover, criminal General Shukhewich, who demanded that all Soviet monuments, emblems an anything linked to the Soviet history be destroyed and also started to rename all streets, avenues and squares, plus names of cities that carried the names of Soviet revolutionaries – and all of them with names of Ukrainian nationalists and traitors.
As the saying goes, “A fisherman sees a fisherman from far away” – these are all Banderites – nationalists and having infiltrated high government positions – are awarding each other with honors and medals.
These facts should be the rallying point of our people for unity in order to cleanse our country of these traitors, this scum and filth that tarnish our people and that of Canada also.
We all have to struggle with those who try to subvert and rewrite history, which make great patriots as occupiers, while making the collaborators – as patriots and fighters for freedom.

RIA NOVOSTI
Communist Party activists staged a demonstration in the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk last month in protest against the pro-Western President Viktor Yushenko.
Thousands from the industrial and mainly Russian-speaking region erected a collection box to gather money to “send the president and his family to America,” A huge mock-up airplane was erected with a slogan on it reading “Yushenko, pack your bags for America”.
Slogans such as “Down with the president!” and “No to NATO!” and “Patriotism Yes – nationalism – NO!”
The leader of the Donetsk Branch of the Communist Party, Mykola Kravchenko said that protests such as this one were held in other cities of Ukraine and urged all other progressive forces to join in.
Opinion surveys by Ukrainian and foreign pollsters show that over 60% of the people of Ukraine opposed Ukraine joining NATO.
Ukraine received very strong backing by the US Administration to join NATO, but this bid was derailed for now by Germany and France in December of 2008.
A dummy representing the Ukrainian president Victor Yushenko was showered with shoes at a protest in Donetsk, says the newspaper “Ukrainian Truth” on February 21.
This was part of a protest organized by the movements “Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine”, “Kiev Russ” ("Киевская Русь"), and “Revival of the Ukrainian Village” (“Возрождение украинского села”). The opportunity to throw a shoe at the dummy of Yushenko was offered to everyone and a box of old shoes for this was prepared in advance. When the people ran out of shoes, they beat the dummy of the president and tore off its head.
This protest was directed against the growth of tariffs for municipal services and increases in food prices. According to the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, similar protests are currently happening in the Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Lugansk and Odessa areas of the country.
The throwing of shoes at politicians or their representations has become fashionable after the events of December 2008, when an Iraq journalist Munrazer Al-Zajdi threw a shoe at George W. Bush, who was the president of USA at that time.
In Arab culture, this gesture is used to express extreme contempt.

On February 23, 2009 Ukrainian political and civil activists held a rally in Crimea for “Defender of the Fatherland Day” burning a NATO flag to protest this military alliance’s Eastward expansion.
“On this festive day we show our resolute protest against the plans of NATO countries aimed at expanding the military-political bloc further East” said one of the organizers, the Russian Bloc lawmaker in the Crimean Parliament, Oleg Slyusarenko.
There was over 500 people at this rally in the center of Simferopol, including participants from the Ukrainian opposition party “Party of Regions”, many holding banners reading “Ukraine’s future – Union with Russia!”
“We are certain that NATO’s soldiers will never be in Crimea, and that Sevastapol will forever remain the main base of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet” – stated deputy speaker of Crimea’s Parliament, Sergei Tsekov.
Ukraine’s president Viktor Yushenko said that he would not extend Russia’s lease after 2017.
In Kiev the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko laid flowers at the tomb of the Soldier in honor of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, while president Yushenko does not recognize this holiday.
With the break up of the Soviet Union, Ukraine ceased to recognize any Soviet holidays or Anniversaries.
From The Barents Observer
Russian General, Nikolai Makarov warned that Russia would respond to any attempts to militarize the Arctic.
“Overall we are looking at how far the region will be militarized”, the General said at an international arms fair in Abu Dhabi last month, as Reuters reported.
The warning comes as NATO is stepping up its focus on the Arctic. The background for the increase focus on this strategic region is the ongoing climate change, as well as the bigger international interest in this region due to the regions natural resources, such as oil and gas.
Canada, United States, Norway, Greenland and Russia are competing for the natural resources underneath the Arctic ice cap.
It is estimated – according to the US Geological Survey – that
about 13 per cent of the world’s undiscovered oil and 30 per cent of
its undiscovered gas lie under the Arctic seabed.
On March 1, 2009 in Moscow on the Revolutionary Square, there took place a meeting in defense of a Trade Union Leader of the Miners Union, Valentin Urusov, jailed on fabricated charges. Over 200 demonstrators took part and carried banners saying: “Freedom for Valentin Urusov!” “Workers Solidarity!” and “No to Social Terror!”
Valentin Urusov in July of 2008 organized a union in the private mining firm “Alrosa” –Yakutia. In the first month of this organizing union campaign, more than 2,000 workers joined. Workers demanded back pay and on August 27th they went on a hunger strike. Negotiations were started, but on September 3, 2008 Valentin Urusov was arrested that he had 70 grams of narcotics. This was an outright fabrication by the management of the unionized enterprise, by the chief of a section in Yakutia, not from the locality of the mine, but someone who traveled over 600 miles to personally arrest Urusov!
On December 26, 2008 Urusov was sentenced by the court in Udachnyj – Republic of Sakha, to six years in jail.

“ I know by my own experience, how the owners of these private industries sabotage and fabricate events to break-up the trade unions that are being formed. They set up phony trade union sections in order to disrupt a united trade union being formed and function.”
GALINA DMITRIERVA – Revolutionary Workers Party
“Comrades, things like the jailing on trumped-up charges like happened with Valentin Urusov, things like beating up of workers, assassination of workers and other physical abuse is happening more and more frequently now. Not a month passes by that we find up that someone was beaten, killed or charged with possession of narcotics.
Do we think comrades that these are just random occurrence? That this is just someone of the owners who has a grudge on a worker? Or is it just a crooked judge, or a crooked mayor of the city? No comrades! These are not random acts – this is the capitalist system. This is the policy of the preset Russian state. This state spits on any rights of the workers or the law!
These are all victims of the class struggle. We must discuss, demonstrate and demand – but this is not enough.
We have to understand that to stop all of this, we must have victory over the present state.
Sometimes some workers tell me, that our people, that our left movement are not ready for armed struggle.
Then what are we ready to do? Just for us to be ready to count more and more as to who got killed, who got beaten up or how many of us the present state will put in jail?
The crisis of the present capitalist state will grow more and more, and we shall arise, if not today, but tomorrow, we are going to go into the streets. If we are not willing to put up with one bourgeois clique replacing another one, we must help people organize and win. Only the working class is capable to win this victory.
The guilty ones are now in the Kremlin. They exploit, rob and put the people in jail or into misery. But time is coming fast, they will have to pay for their crimes and people will judge them according to the law and they will pay the supreme penalty!

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has warned the Obama Administration against adopting further socialism, in the US, stating that Russian history clearly shows that it is a recipe for failure.
“Any fourth grade history student knows that socialism has failed in every country, at every time in history,” said Putin. “President Obama and his fellow Democrats are either idiots or deliberately trying to destroy their own economy.”
An Obama spokesman dismissed Putin’ claim by saying, “We’re going to do socialism much better.”
