More than 50 million human lives had been destroyed and snuffed out. But how many more lives were crippled, mutilated and consigned to the physical, mental and emotional underworld of human miseries will never be known. The cost of that most brutal and hideous of all wars likewise was incalculable. Tens of millions of armed fighting forces had been trained, equipped and thrown into the "killing fields" of Europe and around the world.
Since that time of 1945, the most widely unacknowledged propaganda deliberately falsified by capitalists and imperialists and by the revisionists for all of these 64 years, is the fact that if there had not been the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics totally engaged in this the West's prepared monstrous World War II – no other force on this earth was capable of destroying and completely defeating the Nazi-German and Italian monopoly supported war machine and their all embracing attempt by sheer ferocity to dominate every nation and people!
The human cost to the Soviet Union exceeded that of all other nations combined. More than 25,000,000 of their people perished, while the devastation of cities, towns, villages, industries, schools and other cultural institutions and schools – the whole of the infrastructure was ruined beyond any descriptive words.
This triumphant victory could not have been accomplished without the dedication and patriotism of the Soviet People and their Communist Party, led by Joseph Stalin, its General Secretary.
Take a look in this issue at the historical photograph taken in June of 1945 of the 57 Soviet Marshals, Generals and Major Generals of the Soviet Red Army, who raised the Soviet Flag over the Reichstag in Berlin. Marshal Stalin is right in the middle of the photograph.
The cover (front and back) is a beautiful color painting of the Soviet
Marshals stepping on German Nazi swastikas and emblems. This painting
was published in the excellent Russian photographic history of WW II
in Leningrad in 1985.
One very important person is missing from this painting. He was also as Marshal and Supreme Commander of the Soviet Red Army, General Secretary of the CPSU – Marshall Joseph V. Stalin. Why? Already the seeds of Gorbachev; Perestroika (Destroika) were at work on the path of revisionism and the dismemberment of the USSR!
An excellent overview of the Great Patriotic War is written by Pavel Krasnov as a Guest Editorial.
