News From Former USSR
Ukrainian nationalist fascists not too long ago in Kiev had defaced the statue of V.I. Lenin on the main street of Kiev, the Kreshchatik Square by breaking off the hands and breaking his nose plus painting nationalist slogans on the base of the monument.
The Communist Party of Ukraine has opened up a Financial Drive in order to erect a new monument to V.I. Lenin in Kiev.
This photo of the defaced Lenin monument was published in the "Rabochaya Gazeta" #114 – in 2009 and it was sent to us by Galina Savchenko who urged us to write letter to UNESCO urging them to help with the finances needed to restore the monument to V.I. Lenin which they declared themselves as a historical site.
International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People
has sent an official letter to UNESCO urging them to take immediate
steps to restore this Lenin monument in Kiev.
According to the "Wall Street Journal" of May 24, 2009 and the Russian newspaper "Nezavisimaya Gazeta", May 22, 2009 – President Medvedev has established a new Commission to "Combat anti-Russian propaganda and to define Russians historically,"
Or is this done in order to combat more and more public expression that
they are Soviet? Or is this an official Medvedev-Putin Commission to
completely wipe out the history of the USSR?
President Medvedev of Russia has reassured them with these kind words, according to "Agence France Presse": "It is clear that without the successful Russian and overseas entrepreneurship, Russia will not have a future! You are not enemies of our people!"
There will be tax breaks, financial bail-outs, free reign in their money-grabbing and protection from any prosecution!
No wonder that the overseas multi-national corporations are beating a path directly to the Kremlin!
According to the "Pakistan Daily News" on June 23, 2009 regarding security in this volatile region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated: "We're (Russia) are not attempting to undermine the intentions of NATO at all, we're in favour of coordinating our activities so that we do not work against each other!"
Dear Mr. Lavrov! Why this love affair with NATO? To have any love affair bloom, the two partners must have the same aim to consummate
their love affair! Maybe Mr. Lavrov should tell Mr. Obama to dissolve this aggressive bloc of NATO, as your idol Gorbachev dissolved the peaceful Warsaw Pact!
It seems that this love affair with NATO and Russia has already been consummated.
The World Bank with which Russia is closely tied to has warned the government last month that the recession will run much longer than previously reported. Russia is one the countries that has been hit the hardest. The country has had the most extreme swings from boom to bust and the Russian economy just cannot be geared to the export of oil and gas.
The World Bank projected that the economy would shrink by over 8 per cent and will not be able to recover until late 2012. This is a paradox since the oil prices have risen, but the Russian economy is shrinking due to lack of manufacturing.
The World Bank, in cooperation with the Russian Banks, predicted that at the end of 2009 over 17 per cent of the Russian population, or about 2.6 million people will live in absolute poverty!
The automotive production has fallen off close to 60 per cent, as well as other sectors, which are tied to or owned by the international corporations, who want to export goods to Russia and not the other way around.
Maybe Putin and Medvedev should go and pray and ask for donations from the powerful rich Russian Orthodox Church.
The simmering "milk war" has now broken out into the open. Byelorussian
leader Alexander Lukashenko threatened to boycott the CSTO meeting. At
issue is Russia's recent decision to ban all importation of more than
1,200 kinds of milk products from Belarus. This economic move by the
Russian regime is likely to cause Byelorussia billons of dollars in
lost trade revenue and hamper future cooperation.
According to the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" of June 17, 2009 - the newspaper published a scathing account of China's trade policies entitled: "We Give Them Oil, They Give Us Rags!" The newspaper went on to state "the existing imbalances" even though China has become Russia's main economic partner, "this partnership is always one-sided."
The newspaper Izvestia charged that everything that is invented or produced in the world is immediately copied and placed into mass production without any permission!"
Of course this is no way to make friends and influence people for Socialism, is it!
In a story by the Associate Press written by Douglas Birch, a new study by a team of international public-health researchers showed the devastating impact of alcohol abuse in Russia since the demise of the Soviet Union. This study showed that drinking caused more than half of all the deaths among the Russians aged 15-54.
The 52% figure compares to estimates that less than 4% deaths worldwide are caused by alcohol abuse. This research project was done by the British, French and Russian researchers and was published in the British medical journal The Lancet!
The Russian findings in the survey of over 49,000 deaths between 1990 and 2001 among the Russians aged 15-54. Russian Professor Zaridze, Head of the Russian Cancer Research, said that the alcohol consumption started to increase after Gorbachev perestroika restrictions on alcohol sales collapsed – and this cost the lives of over 3,000,000 people who would otherwise be alive today!
This loss is similar to that of a war! stated Professor Zaridze.
All of these scientists and researchers agreed that social and economic shocks by the demise of the USSR and uncontrolled capitalism and exploitation of the 1990's drove the people to drink.
"Alcohol consumption is always connected with poverty!" concluded Professor David Zaridze.
Below are tidbits gathered from Russian and US press agencies that show dramatically the complete sell-out of the Putin-Medvedev regime to US Imperialism under the cloak of mutual business cooperation and development.
On June 28, 2009 Putin as Prime Minister (Czar to be correct – Editor) threw down a dollar-soaked welcome mat to the Shell International, Anglo-French Corporation (which is US controlled) to come and be in charge of the richest offshore oil and gas resources in the whole world.
Mr. Putin was all sweetness and smiles as he signed away the richest oil and gas deposits that belonged to the Soviet Union. Mr. Putin said that "We need your expertise - since we do not have the knowhow!
Hey Mr. Putin! Who put the first man into space?
Mr. Medvedev (after he got a pat on the back from Putin) signed a deal with US imperialists to allow them to transport all military cargo, soldiers and weapons through its territory to Afghanistan and to Iraq.
In the eyes of the People of Afghanistan and Iraq the present Russian regime is no different than US imperialism, since you are making it easier for the US occupiers to kill, destroy, rape, burn and terrorize the people of Afghanistan and Iraq!
Another interesting and at the same time shocking news item from Russia published in Washington in July was this: The Russian regime (whether under pressure or not from the Pentagon) is now going to plan to be able to fight three simultaneous conflicts in the world if they occur – but not with the present Russian Army – since the present Russian Army is being cut drastically by over 50% and they will be replaced, as the news item stated, by "kontraktniki" – professional hired soldiers!
This is causing a terrible uproar in the Russian Army command, as was in July by General Rodionov, former Defense Minister: He said: "Who is behind these reforms? There are forces who want to destroy Russia as it is now, since they see Russia as a threat to their interests. These are the same forces that broke up the USSR, now they want to break up Russia, and that is why they are implementing these reforms in the Russian Army!" The General also commented that with these Medvedev-Putin reforms the salaries of these "Kontraktniki Soldiers" will be tripled as "professional soldiers!"
