Dear readers and friends
It seems like not too long ago that the founding members of NSC gathered at the Friendship House in Toronto, Canada in August of 1992 and launched NSC on its way. With Dr. A.J. Thut as Honorary Chairman presiding, Michael Lucas, R.S. Kenny, Ray Stevenson, Helen Lucas, Alex McLennan, Nick Kucherew, Michael Yasny, William Tyconik, Dan Ross, Louise Greene, Anna Lukac, Bill Craig, Lil Greene, F.R. Sherwood and Doug Adams started this much needed effort.
As we celebrate 17 years of publishing NSC each month (besides all extra NSC supplements) sometimes it is hard to believe that on a voluntary basis we managed to raise the needed finances for printing and mailing – 204 Monthly issues of Northstar Compass!
Now that we are publishing the English, French, Russian and Spanish Editions of NSC and the fact that they are in 68 countries of the world, our need for financial help is growing and we again appeal to all of you to help us reach our $40,000 NSC Sustaining Fund by the end of this 17th Anniversary year!
We print here the First NSC cover and also we reprint our First Editorial.
The dismemberment of the Soviet Union through revisionism, internal traitors, such are the rotten fruits of 43 years of the Cold War, largely instituted by the US military-industrial complex. Strings that are attached to IMF loans include (in any country) cuts in all social, health and educational programs; lay-offs, speed up and wage cuts; denial of food subsidies of all kinds; more tax on the poor, less tax for the rich...in general, the cutting living standards all along the line for the people. If this has a familiar ring to it, it does not apply only to the “USSR” and “Eastern Europe” or the “Third World”. Take a look at the Canadian scene as well.
This is what Boris Yeltsin begs the IMF to apply to the Soviet people.
The IMF bankers’ pay-off of the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the opening up of its rich and vast resources – natural, human, technological and scientific – to capitalist domination and exploitation has been planned since 1946.
On September 24, 1946, Clark Clifford, then a Special Council to US President Truman, submitted a report on the US-Soviet relations. In part it read: “The language of military power is the only language which disciples of power understand. The United States must use that language... It must be made apparent to the Soviets that our strength will be sufficient to defeat the USSR decisively...”
Today this same international banker Clifford stands charged in the USA with a variety of criminal acts for embezzlement, fraud, etc.
Then on August 18, 1948 the US National Security Council Report #20/1 was confirmed by the US government to become an overall strategic plan for either / or militarized action against the Soviet Union. It read in part: "This government had been forced, for me purpose of policies that are now in progress, to consider more definite and military objectives towards Russia... In the first place, there is no time limit for the achievement of our objectives...We must ensure that even a regime which is communist and although friendly, to us, is not allowed to be a strong military power; is economically dependent on the outside world; is not allowed to exercise authority over its national minorities; does not prevent contacts with the outside world.
“At the present we know that there are a number of powerful Russian political groupings that we are in touch with... any of which would be preferable to us as opposed to the present Soviet government (to meet the problem of dealing with resistance of the Communists) we would need only to give them the necessary support and arms, plus military support to whatever non-communist group willing to proceed with procedures of a civil war...!”
Thus spoke the US Government 47 and 44 years ago. This is a time of great danger, intrigue and sharp call to all of us to defend Socialism and the USSR!
Dear readers:
This was the statement that was issued by the Concerned Friends of Soviet People in 1992! We were the only progressive publication in Canada to do so! We were also criticized for doing so, or that we did not understand "perestroika and glasnost" or that Yeltsin and Gorbachev were trying to build "socialism with a human face" and many other criticism.
History certainly proved us correct in taking a stand against these revisionists and traitors!
