Dear Comrades of the PC(AP),

On behalf of the International Council for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People and the Editorial Board of Northstar Compass, we send you and through you to all the people of Chile our condolences for the death, destruction and suffering caused by the earthquake.

As you have correctly pointed out, the earthquake has both natural and social causes. Imperialism, particularly U.S imperialism, and its neo-liberal policies have been interested in nothing but super-profits from Chile, and therefore they have encouraged government spending to go into areas that give them the greatest profits, and have discouraged spending on the infrastructure that is necessary to build bridges, roads and building that could withstand the effects of the earthquake.

We stand with you in calling for foreign aid that respects the sovereignty and dignity of your country, and opposing any attempt by imperialism and its agents to use the earthquake to send troops to Chile, as they have already done to Haiti, making that country once again into a country occupied by imperialism.
