What is the role of US Imperialism in the Haiti tragedy?

Now that the Earthquake in Haiti is in the news every hour of the world media and help is pouring in to help in this devastation, we should remember the historical involvement of US and French Imperialism in Haiti.

Since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti, in the daily news there was hardly any mention of help from Cuba to Haiti. Cuba had over 400 Doctors and medical staff in Haiti and more arrived. There were and are many Argentinean personnel, Icelanders, Nicaraguans and many other countries there even before American or Canadian help, troops and warships arrived.

Let's just take a look back at the domination of USA over Haiti and its struggles to be free of US imperialism. This has caused great concern not only for the people of Haiti, but for progressive mankind as well.

1: The US engineered continued exile of democratically elected and well-loved, yet twice-removed former priest, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

2: The continued unexplained occupation of the country by United Nations Troops, who have killed innocent people and are hardly there now for "security" reasons, mainly going to sparsely populated regions, but enjoying for rich-only beautiful beaches.

3: US has constructed its largest US Embassy in the world at Port-Au-Prince in Haiti. Why not in London, Moscow, Ottawa or Paris? 4: The mining and Port licenses and contracts, including the privatization of Haiti's deep water ports, because US knows that certain off-shore oil and transshipments would not be possible inside the USA for environmental laws and other considerations.

5. The imposition into Haiti of scores of US backed "Non Governmental Organizations" NGO prevents Haiti from any economic or political freedom.

Haitians know that their political system was installed against their wishes and that their former President was banished on the orders of Washington.

The truth is a bitter pill to swallow President Obama – but swallow you will have to, sooner or later!
