Back to the Future

Chilean Committee of Friendship with the Peoples of the Former USSR

"Back to the Future" is the contribution of a group of revolutionary and progressive communists and comrades grouped together in the "Chilean Committee of Friendship with the Peoples of the Former Soviet Union," there to pay homage to the socialist construction and the realization of its colossal tasks.

It is in solidarity with the present day struggle of the peoples of the former Soviet Union and who today are suffering under capitalist exploitation and misery, revealed in the search for their future, socialism.

The task taken up requires much courage; many who today call themselves "communists" and "revolutionaries" do no take it up, moreover they deny any connection, whether because of fear or opportunism, with the glorious past of the former USSR. For us, the defense of this past is not only to bring up memories on the theoretical level; our task, and we believe that it is the task of all who seriously aspire to social change, is to put into perspective the future of humanity, SOCIALISM, which existed in the former Soviet Union.

We must dig out from under the mountain of slanders and lies the socialist experience, which by its complex characteristics from its birth and development, is also obligatory study for the future revolutions. This experience carried out by the Soviet peoples and the Communist Party (Bolshevik) led in its time to the emancipation of many other peoples of the whole world and today it is our duty to take it up as a response to the search for a better, higher tomorrow.

The slow degeneration of capitalist society, with its evils of war, misery, hunger, prostitution, makes imminent the task of embracing the communist ideas and to build socialism as the only answer to the urgent necessity of social changes.

The paradox of the name of our magazine is thus explained. BACK TO THE FUTURE means to return to socialism, to progress, to happiness, it is the redemption of that experience which will return to place itself in the future, enriched by the experiences of the class struggles of the new generations. To redeem the socialist past of the former USSR is to return to the socialist future for all the peoples of the world.

With this magazine we give all of you another opportunity to defend socialism, confronting its enemies which have proclaimed its defeat throughout the world. Thus the bourgeoisie, the capitalists, in their hatred for Marxism-Leninism are concealing the socialist experience, in the fruitful and glorious period from 1917 to 1953, that is, the epoch of Lenin and Stalin; in their eagerness they see the defeat of revisionism (after 1953), as the definitive failure of communism, denying the perspective of the development of society.

By falsifying history the bourgeoisie thinks more about the future than of the past, because it takes into account the actuality and vitality of scientific socialism, as it must be on guard faced with greater crises and wars of every kind.

Since the re-establishment of capitalism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, all the contradictions of the world capitalist system became exacerbated. Faced with the cataclysm of unemployment, exploitation and wars that threaten the peoples of the whole world, only Marxism-Leninism can provide the working masses and the oppressed peoples with the arms for their liberation.

The defense of the socialist experience in the Soviet Union, the defense of the work of Stalin, is to pursue the defense of Marxism-Leninism, it is the defense of the whole development by giant steps in all areas, in the sciences, arts, economy, the monumental works constructed in the countryside and the cities, in the conquest of space, in the victory over Nazi-fascism, etc., all this is today more than ever a current and present task to confront the reality of the class struggle under the "new world order" of imperialism.
