A coordinated effort from Moscow, London and Washington is going full steam ahead in an effort to warm up the "cold war" just before the December Russian Duma elections and the presidential election in year 2000.
Why right now? Why are all newspapers, TV and media full of these stories?
It seems that this round of McCarthyism is given to the Labour Party of Britain (did someone say socialist?) to carry on the torch where the late U.S. Senator McCarthy left off.
It seems, according to a "high ranking former KGB intelligence officer" (of course he is anonymous now) that an elderly lady in England (87 years old) has now confessed that she was spying for the USSR for 35 years! Now, practically on her death-bed, she confessed to giving secrets to the Soviets on atomic bomb. And we were led to believe that it was Ethel & Julius Rosenberg who were the culprits and who were electrocuted for this "crime!"
Also, KGB defector Vasili Mitrokhin said that he spied for the British MI5 for 12 years and gave data to them from KGB files. It is interesting that a Cambridge University academic, Christopher Andrew, now has published a book called: The Mitrokhin Archive: The KGB in Europe and the West - he says that he shall expose "thousands of KGB spies all over the world".
We think that McCarthy would be really proud of these modern day red-baiters in the capitalist countries and this includes now Yeltsin's Russia!
What about the bombings in Moscow that have taken over 300 lives? Are these coincidences? Are these the work of so-called "Chechens, Dagestanians and the Caucasians?"
Is there not a tie-in between these "revelations of spies of KGB all over the world" and these bombings? Is the West worried that in the December Duma elections the Left forces might gain a victory? Are they also worried about President Yeltsin's stooges not winning the year 2000 presidential chair?
Surely, all of these tactics that are orchestrated by Imperialism in order to influence the Soviet elections, besides war maneuvers on Soviet soil and buying of industries, raw material resources and instigating ethnic conflicts, should serve as a warning sign to the patriotic and communist movements in the Soviet Union that this upcoming struggle is a do-or-die conflict!
Lenin and Stalin knew, and all real Marxists know fully well that bourgeois elections will not be the vehicle that will overthrow the present regime... no matter even if the Communists gain a victory. We pointed out in our last NSC Editorial as to what might happen.
Putting our worries aside, surely, if there ever was a time for a solid united front, it is now! Imperialism is playing for keeps. This is not the time for personal ambitions by the leaders of the anti-Yeltsin forces, or to prove to each other who is the one and only pure Marxist!
The working class of the world shall be watching the actions of the anti-Yeltsin forces and drawing proper conclusions!
